Our Wall of Hope came to life tonight!

This beautiful installation was imagined and then created by Izzi B students as a space for our community to share what we hope for our Dragons.

Tonight at Back to School Night, our families helped bring their vision to life by adding their hopes to the wall.

There is something pretty powerful about students creating the space—and then inviting all of us into it.

From Phoenix to Berlin to Denver… meet one of our newest Dragons!

Today’s Izzi B Staff Spotlight is Hannah Mealer, who joins our community as a 4th grade teacher!

Hannah brings more than a decade of experience in education, including teaching 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades, serving as a K–5 math interventionist, and most recently working as a Senior Team Lead and Interventionist. Her teaching journey has taken her to classrooms in Phoenix, Berlin, and Denver!

At the heart of Hannah’s work is a belief that every child can learn and every student brings something special to the classroom. She loves helping students discover their strengths, build confidence, take pride in their growth — and have FUN while learning!

Outside of school, Hannah loves spending time with her husband, Victor, and their daughter, Winona, especially hiking, exploring, and enjoying Colorado’s beautiful outdoors.

We’re so excited to have Hannah at Izzi B. Welcome to the Dragon family!

We can’t wait to welcome our Dragon families! Come a little early so our greeters can get everyone signed in and ready to go.

🚗 Parking: You may see “No Parking” signs along surrounding streets, but parking is permitted there for tonight’s event.

For the safety of our entire Dragon community, all families should enter through our main entrance and sign in with our greeters.

Who are the people behind the Dragon magic? It’s time to meet them!

We’re kicking off a new Izzi B Staff Spotlight series, and first up is one of our newest Dragons — Sarah Flohr!

Sarah brings an incredible 19 years of experience in DPS, both as a classroom teacher and reading interventionist. She knew early on that teaching was her calling — starting with a classroom of stuffed animals lined up in front of her chalkboard easel!

Outside of school, Sarah loves history, science (of course!), documentaries, scary movies, and spending time with her cats, Ruby and Wednesday.

We are so excited to have Sarah’s experience, curiosity, and love of learning in our community.

We are incredibly proud to share that Isabella Bird Community School has earned a GREEN rating on the School Performance Framework!

These results represent so much more than numbers. They reflect students who worked hard and took risks. Teachers who believed deeply in every learner. Staff who collaborated, adjusted, encouraged, and never stopped asking, “What does this student need next?” And families who partnered with us every step of the way.

At Izzi B, we believe students deserve to be known, challenged, supported, and growing — and we are incredibly proud of what our Dragons are accomplishing.

Community in action!
We are incredibly grateful to our friends at Riverside Church for spending their time and energy serving our Izzi B community!
Their amazing team of volunteers helped bring new life to our school — painting fresh stencils along our front walkway and playground and giving our staff lounge and Wellness Center a beautiful refresh with new paint.
These projects represent something bigger than fresh paint. They are a reminder of what is possible when a community shows up, lends a hand, and invests in creating spaces where students and educators feel welcomed, cared for, and proud to belong.
A special thank you to our art teacher, Erin Mindigo, for helping coordinate with our volunteers and supporting the day!
Thank you, Riverside Church, for showing up for our school and helping make Izzi B a little brighter. We are so grateful for your partnership!

Learning is heading outdoors at Izzi B!

We are thrilled to share that Isabella Bird Community School is creating a new outdoor classroom in partnership with Out Teach!

This space will become a living, hands-on learning environment where students can wonder, investigate, create, collaborate, problem-solve, and connect their learning to the world around them.

And, in true Izzi B fashion, this work will be built with our community. Students, staff, families, and partners will all play a role in imagining and bringing this space to life.

As a two-time Green Flag school, this feels like a beautiful next chapter in our commitment to environmental learning and stewardship — creating even more opportunities for our Dragons to understand that they have the power to care for their community and put good into the world.

We can't wait to watch this space (and our students) grow. 🌿

🎶 The talent at Izzi B extends far beyond the classroom!
This weekend, one of our incredible new teachers took the stage at the Mapleton Arts Center as part of the Metropolitan Choral Festival, performing the spectacular Carmina Burana!
We love getting to celebrate the many gifts, passions, and talents our educators bring to our community. Our students are surrounded every day by adults who continue to learn, create, take risks, and pursue what brings them joy.
How lucky are we to have this kind of talent at Izzi B?!

🌎💚 WE DID IT AGAIN, DRAGONS! 💚🌎

For the second year in a row, Isabella Bird Community School has earned Green Flag status from the National Wildlife Federation!

What makes this recognition especially meaningful is how we earned it — together.

Our Green Flag represents the collective work of students, staff, families, and community partners who have dreamed, learned, planted, conserved, problem-solved, and taken action alongside one another. Our students have had authentic opportunities to lead, while the adults and community around them have helped turn their ideas into meaningful change.

At Izzi B, sustainability isn't a project or a single initiative. It is woven into how we learn and how we care for ourselves, one another, our community, and our planet.

Earning this recognition for a second consecutive year reminds us what is possible when a community comes together around a shared purpose — and when our youngest Dragons know their voices and actions can make a difference. 🌱

So proud of this community and the good we continue to put into the world — together.
