If you've tried to learn a you know it's more complicated than "kick your leg up, do a twist, spot your landing." One suggestion to help you pick up the most popular skill in is to pay more attention to your setup; not everyone thrives on a , and I personally didn't get a until well after I had doubles from several other setups. It's not exactly a move while we're at it, so don't be in a rush! I have a full lesson on , , and horizontal twisting variations on dot com if you need a walkthrough of the progression featured in this video 👍

Here's my advice for learning the effectively, by prioritizing coordination and control first, then developing power and efficiency.
Don't settle for crash landings, or inconsistent attempts that sometimes come out as a tornado kick. If you can't consistently pull off a low (but controlled) 540 kick, focus on building the coordination to jump and land on the same leg. Gradually work in a tiny kick to build awareness. Once you can hit that skill reliably, note that the 540 is often times an athlete's first exposure to the real athletic demand in required power to jump (off one leg), kick (with that leg), and finish kicking in order to land (on that same leg) all within the time limit of however long you're in the air (which isn't that long). You should therefore concentrate your effort on developing power by either repping the in-progress 540 kick, using drills to supplement the skill, training athleticism in general (lifting weights, doing plyometrics, stretching), or all of the above. Be patient; it takes most people quite a while for this kick to look and feel "how it should." Be mindful of fatigue and overuse as the body will show signs of wear if you train too heavily for what it can handle. Take a break to recover and get back after it as soon as you feel physically ready!

My advice: don't listen to anyone who says: "kick over your shoulder, wrap your arms tight and spot the landing," because there's a lot of potential for things to go wrong. Instead start with no rotation or inversion, but fully controlled landings. Simple vertical kicks on the ground are then converted into horizontal twist variations without much rotation, again with controlled landings. Using those twist kick variations you can add enough rotation to pull off a full or a cork, without crashing! A bonus lesson introducing the gainer is included as a pre-requisite to building up to corkscrew.

Back flip is an easy skill- to do. Once you have it down. It's definitely not easy for everyone to learn, or to make consistent initially. There are endless videos on how to back flip, promising rewards with time limits such as 30 days... That can't be true for everyone. Sometimes you'll hear "set and spot the wall," or "bring your knees up and you'll flip over." Do those sound like practical instructions to you? Get a deeper understanding of what makes you jump up vs. back, what actually makes you rotate, and how to learn to complete the back flip safely without needing to crash or get hurt. Add that back flip into your tumbling pass after roundoff or back handspring safely while controlling momentum.
