Denver School of the Arts Bands Official Facebook communications page for the Denver School of the Arts Bands Department. Denver School of the Arts is a conservatory based school.

The DSA Bands Department is comprised of Percussion, Winds, & Brass in two groups; Concert Band (Middle School Band) and Wind Ensemble (High School Band). DSA Bands also includes other programs that is open to all instrumentation (and vocals) is Jazz Workshops & Ensembles and Chamber Groups. These young young musicians are classically trained to start mastering their craft at the highest levels of technique, artistry, and professionalism. Many of these these kids either go on or are currently making contributions to continuing local and national culture in the disciplines of Classical, Jazz, and other musical art forms.

The SheBop Young Women in Jazz Workshop is back—and it’s so much more than a workshop. At CCJA, we know firsthand how powerful it is to walk into a room and see yourself reflected on the bandstand. Spaces like this matter. They remind us that our voices, our stories, and our artistry belong in this music.

Led by director Annie Booth, SheBop is created for femme, female, and non-binary musicians who are ready to grow, connect, and take up space. Over the course of the day, participants will dive into small group playing, instrument masterclasses, jam sessions, improvisation workshops, and—just as importantly—mentorship and community-building with artists who have walked similar paths.

We believe jazz is strongest when it reflects all of us. This workshop is about building confidence, finding your voice, and being surrounded by people who see and support you.
The day will culminate in a community performance—because your music deserves to be heard.

Workshop Details:
Saturday, May 16, 2026 | 9am–6pm
MSU JAIM Building
800 Kalamath St, Denver

Final Performance:
5–6pm at Renegade Brewing
925 W 9th Ave, Denver
(Friends and family welcome! Food truck on site for dinner.)
Open to all instruments, voice, and ability levels—middle and high school students only.

Cost is $125, with scholarships available for any amount needed.

On March 16th, the DSA Wind Ensemble performed at Carnegie Hall! It was an incredible performance by and experience for our students.

The students performed Armenian Dances (Alfred Reed), Gandalf from Symphony No. 1 “Lord of the Rings” (De Meij), and Tico Tico No Fuba by Zequina de Abrieu, with a standing ovation from the crowd. This was a trip of a lifetime and a performance to remember.

Join us in celebrating Eli Mercado’s Senior Recital at Dazzle Denver! Tonight at 7:00 PM, DSA senior Eli Mercado takes the stage for a special night of music.

“The Eli Mercado Quartet brings together a group of Denver musicians led by trumpeter Eli Mercado, a student at the Denver School of the Arts. A three-time member of the Colorado All-State Jazz Band (2024, 2025, 2026) and a performer at various music festivals, Eli is building a growing presence on the local jazz scene. The group features close friends and mentors and centers on Eli’s personal interpretations of favorite works. Influenced by modern and world jazz, the quartet aims to share a fresh, focused sound with the jazz club that fostered so much of his growth.”

On Sunday, March 15th, the Jazz Workshop Orchestra Big Band and Combos performed at The Iridium, a legendary jazz venue right off Times Square.

This was an incredible performance, highlighting each group’s best run of every chart - something that rarely happens in live music.

The energy, the audience, the staff, the venue, all 🔥🔥🔥🔥

NYC trip was a resounding success!!

On March 13th, DSA Bands Wind Ensemble and Jazz Workshop Orchestra students traveled to NYC and performed at the legendary Iridium and Carnegie Hall! We also went to some amazing concerts and performances, including The NY Philharmonic, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Hamilton, and more!

This trip of a lifetime was certainly a wonderful experience for all, and a highlight of our year. Let’s give it up for our amazing chaperones, and all who made this trip possible!! 🎉🎉🎉
