Join us in congratulating Korbel graduate, Sophie Bergan (MA Global Environmental Sustainability, ’26), on her new role as a Launch Specialist at Halter in Boulder, CO!

Sophie came to Korbel from Des Moines, Iowa, where a formative internship with the World Food Prize Foundation sparked her passion for international agriculture and food systems. She pursued her degree intentionally, shaping her coursework around the intersection of food, land, and global development.

Now she's taking that expertise directly into the field. At Halter, she'll work with ranchers and producers to implement virtual fencing technology that supports regenerative grazing, improving soil health, land management, and animal welfare through innovation.

Her advice to incoming students? Make this degree fit you, not the other way around! The beauty of graduate school is being able to hone in on your interests and really become knowledgeable about topics that will directly apply to your future career.

We're so proud of everything Sophie has accomplished and can't wait to see the impact she makes. Congratulations! πŸŽ“

Korbel alum Jonathan Hartman (MA, 2014) built a career helping families lower their energy bills and access rebates that made a real difference in their lives.

His career is a testament to the impact public servants have on everyday people, and Korbel gave him the foundation to make it happen. As Jonathan puts it, 'we need idealists, we need change makers.' His story is proof of why.

Check it out now. πŸ‘‡

Rhiannan Price (MA International Human Rights '12) started her career as a Peace Corps volunteer with no idea she'd one day be building the world's first humanitarian satellite through her nonprofit, Common Space.

We sat down with her to learn about the Korbel professors who shaped her path, the NASA program she built from the ground up, and what it really takes to build a career at the intersection of technology and human rights.

Her advice to students? "Even if you don't see the thing out there that you want to walk toward, you can be the person who creates it."

What a celebration! πŸŽ‰ On June 2, the Korbel community gathered to honor three faculty members whose decades of service have left a lasting mark on our students, our programs, and the broader academic community: Lynn Holland, Haider Khan, and Frank Laird.

Please join us in thanking them for everything they've given to Korbel, and in wishing them all the best in this well-deserved next chapter.

What started as a seemingly simple decision to take Chinese in high school has led Korbel student Trevor Paulus (MA International Studies, '27) to one of the most competitive language scholarships in the country.

This summer, he heads to Taiwan for eight weeks of fully funded, intensive Mandarin study through the U.S. Department of State's Critical Language Scholarship. We could not be more excited for him! πŸ‘
