Art, activism, and a little punk rock.

CA Senior Erika Mendez Hernandez spent part of her summer as one of three Teen Artists-in-Residence at MCA Denver, creating an immersive mixed-media installation inspired by science fiction, street art, her own experiences, and ideas about identity and immigration.

Her inspiration also comes from Denver’s punk scene, where she’s drawn to the DIY mentality, freedom of expression, and sense of community.

Now Erika is bringing those influences back to CA as she begins work on her Senior Portfolio.

Senior Erika Mendez Hernandez was selected as one of MCA Denver's three 2026 Teen Artists-in-Residence.

Hiking to mountaintop views, riding horseback through the valley, tackling a ropes course, and paddleboarding across a mountain lake—these were just a few of the activities that made for an unforgettable weekend kicking off the school year.

In the new Advanced Studies Astronomy elective, Juniors and Seniors walked through a quick orientation to the solar system by creating a to-scale map of our planets.

In the lab-based course, they will investigate the composition and behavior of celestial bodies, including stars, planets, and galaxies, through both theoretical study and data analysis.
