Our Executive Director, Mary Nelson, spoke as a keynote panelist this Saturday at the Rocky Mountain Early Childhood Conference.

The panel explored Community Perspectives on Supporting Children’s Resiliency. Mary shared insight from her doctoral research on authentic and culturally sustaining family engagement, and provider perspectives on strategies for supporting the resiliency and mental health of both children and adults in early childhood communities.

Due to icy road conditions and sub-zero temperatures predicted for the morning, DCP will follow Denver Public Schools in a two-hour delayed start for all Thursday morning classes. Classes will begin at 10:30 AM, giving families and members of staff time to commute safely to school.

Please note that extremely frigid temperatures are predicted for tomorrow. While it will likely be too cold for an outdoor recess, families are encouraged to dress children appropriately and well-prepared for winter weather.

Stay safe and warm!

Save the date! The DCP Auction is April 28! Mark it on your calendars! ✅

Meet the amazing Katie Sullivan. A long standing DCP staff member! 💜👋🏼 Some fun facts about Ms. Katie:
1.) She has worked at DCP since 2000 and has taught all classes with exception to Parent Tot (no longer offered). Spent four years as the Assistant Director, but went back into the classroom because she missed it so much! 🦋

2.) 2 of her 3 grown boys are DCP alumni, and all 3 live in CO so she gets to spend time with them often! Lucky! 🍀🗻

3.) Katie is a 4th generation Colorado native!

4.) She loves to play tennis, go road/gravel cycling, and ski both uphill and downhill, and SUP. Her pandemic hobby became aquascaping, and it is where she finds her creativity and peace. If anyone in the DCP community is into aquascaping, she’d love to chat! ✌️ Thank you Ms Katie for all you do for DCP! 💜💕

Meet the president of the DCP board, Jenny! 👋🏼💙 What does the President role do? The president of the board oversees the board of directors and helps make decisions for the school. Because DCP is a parent co-op, our parent-led board has a big responsibility to make sure our school remains a vibrant, healthy community. Jenny and her family have been at DCP for both her kids. It'll be hard to say goodbye when Gus graduates in May!
THREE FUN FACTS: 1. Jenny is an author! Her second novel releases next month (it's called "Lola At Last" and is a modern take on Lydia Bennet); 2. She loves to plan trips and gets really nerdy about planning logistics (ask her about her trip to Alaska this summer—there's a spreadsheet involved); 3. She’d choose cold weather over hot weather, if she had to pick ❄️. Thanks Jenny for all you do! 💙

Can we talk about Ms Raquel’s OOTD?! 😍🍭🐱

Meet Mr Clark! 👋🏼 Clark works in all of our classrooms. Here are some fun facts about Clark: 1. He was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas - He is coming up on his first year in Denver- after spending the first six months training dinosaurs at the Jurassic World exhibit. 🦖🦕
2. He is in a Musical Improv group called Hit and Run with Raquel, who is responsible for introducing him to DCP. Thanks Raquel! 🎶

Our Story

Denver Cooperative Preschool was founded in 1960 by a group of parents from the discontinued Colorado Women’s College Nursery School. By 1962, the preschool had grown and a group of parents from south Denver branched off to establish the University Park Cooperative Nursery School near Denver University. In 1964 the preschool split again: Montview Community Preschool remained at the church and our preschool moved to 8th and Cherry. It was then named the Medical Center Cooperative Nursery School. The name “Denver Cooperative Preschool” was adopted in 1966. We moved to our current location in 1983.

Our mission is to guide young children on the adventure of self discovery through play. We envision an active society where children and adults join in the exploration of life, the quest for understanding, and the journey towards wisdom. We believe that a child’s early experiences are the foundation for adult potential, that parents are key to a child’s unique development, and that play is essential in the learning process of a child.

DCP strives to provide an environment in which children know that people care for them and accept them as they are. We hope that our children will become confident in themselves and their ability to do things and make appropriate choices as they learn about their world and themselves. To achieve these goals we use the Colorado Early Learning and Development Guidelines and individual student portfolios to assist in curriculum building and student assessment.

We are a non-profit, non-denominational school owned by the member families. We are part of the Denver Preschool Program and rated Level 4 by Colorado Shines, the state’s quality rating and improvement system for early care and learning programs.
