Our members are teaching a Speechcraft now (a shortcourse in public speaking) to about eight people at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. Many of them must make presentations to the public or to different boards and commissions or even the state legislature. Public speaking is such an important skill in all areas of life.

Travel was the table topic today and members talked about their travel bucket lists, a dream road trip, reentry shock after a trip to the Middle East, favorite foreign country, etc. One member described a trip to Disneyland with a diamond ring in his pocket nervously awaiting the place to present it to his long time girlfriend!
Savvy Speakers has been an outstanding Toastmasters Club, earning "President's Distinguished Club" for 17 straight years, meeting goals for education, membership and training. Formerly known as BodyShops Toastmasters, the group meets in person once a month and also on Zoom. We are one of 14,200 clubs in 248 countries of the world with 270,000 members. Zoom has enabled us to have members in other locations and even foreign countries. Carol P. called this a remarkable achievement due to participation, perspective, passion and perseverance, one member at a time!
Are you a rule breaker or a rule follower? That was the intriguing table topic question for today, great food for thought.
Toastmasters International has 14,700 clubs in 144 countries of the world with 280,000 members! It was started nearly 100 years ago in a California YMCA. Finally it allowed women to join. Its world headquarters was moved to Englewood several years ago. So very many people have improved their speaking skills, careers and lives through these clubs.
Speeches last week were on PFASs and artificial intelligence. Both were interesting and educational.
Puppy whispering and stargazing were the topics of the two speeches on Thursday. The table topics focused on space. Challenging and interesting.
Today's theme seemed to be nostalgia with two excellent speakers. One talked about her family's holiday traditions and another talked about her favorite dish made by her grandmother from Palestine (stuffed grape leaves). She made us hungry describing the spices added to the rice and the brined soaked grape leaves. The Word of the Day was nostalgia so others talked about their memories of food or even odors from places they loved in the past. As usual, it was a thought-provoking, interesting meeting.
