Week in the Life of a 30 year old American building property in Costa Rica without a trust fund or OnlyF@ns āØāØāØ
One of the biggest pieces of advice I got when I started building was āwhatever your quotes / budget are. Double it.ā
Unfortunatelyā¦. That aired true. š
FML.
This was a big week.
The backhoe flattened my property which I wanted because of the holes left after digging up the Melina roots, but I wasnāt expecting the property to be terraced like thisš
For the record, this guy is very skilled and knowledgeable, he is. So maybe it was better in the end? It is beautiful. Iām just concerned with the loss of a good 500 square meters of buildable land. Thats the part im most bummed over.

In rural Costa Rica, thereās no remedying a lot of stuff like this though. There arent formal contracts or fault owned, you kinda just have to roll with the punches.
So, now I find strong plants with deep roots to plant along these terraces to prevent landslides and erosion before rainy season is in full swingš«” aka before I go to Oregon SUNDAYš

Other things this week ā found someone to replace my fence, bought new fence materials because the same tree cutting guy (rewatch part 1 to learn more) didnāt organize my fence when he removed it to cut trees & the barbed and chicken wire is so mangled itās impossible to reuse, & he refused to replace the fence.
Aaaaand the more exciting, not dramatic part of my project ā the container! My builder himself truly has been great. We love Jose & his team!
Placed the walls for the bodega and bathroom & cut the windows and doors & put in steel frames. Itās starting to actually look like something! Woot!
Stay tuned for this next weeks recap, Iām putting most of the project on hold while Iām in the states for 3 weeks so this week has been crunchhhhhh timeeeeee
