For more than 4 years, a group of committed doctors, patients, and policy experts have been working to raise awareness about the risk of patients developing BIND (benzodiazepine-induced neurological dysfunction) when benzodiazepines are taken as prescribed for more than 2 - 4 weeks. Our society is being eroded at a rate of 275 deaths per day because at-risk populations have limited resources, prevention strategies or treatment and recovery service options.We have reached a new milestone with 100k overdose deaths during the pandemic. Opioid prescriptions unleashed a wave of opioid use disorder that is now spiraled into epic proportions. Today, fentanyl is so lethal that one use or one fake pill can cause death. We must turn this around.
100,000 Americans died of drug overdoses in 12 months during the pandemic The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said a record number of Americans died of drug overdoses in the 12 months ending April 2021. Overdose deaths have doubled since 2014, and fentanyl now is responsible for more than 60 percent of overdose fatalities.
In preparation for Giving Tuesday, TSRG is pleased to share the winning entries from our art competition: https://tsrg.org/2021/11/05/art-winners-announced/. Student artists were asked to share what hope, health, and wellness look like in the time of COVID. Donors at given dollar thresholds will receive meaningful gifts. Students are becoming a key element of the work at TSRG. This week we look forward to receiving all the submissions for our . TSRG asked students grade 1 - 8 to share what health, hope, and wellness look like in the time of COVID. The winning submissions will be turned into note cards for our donors. We also want to highlight our with Haley Nam who helped TSRG with data visualization.
TSRG is preparing for giving season. In the coming weeks, we will be sharing details about our internship program and our partnership with the Challenge School, a K-8 school in Colorado. Our goals are to showcase the opportunities for students interested in research and working with a start-up nonprofit, understand how young people artistically express their feelings in the time of COVID, and give our donors a meaningful gift for their support. We are sponsoring an art competition so that students can submit an original piece of art that will be made into cards with the winning pieces. Stay tuned as we outline the specifics.
We are starting a new page along with launching version 2.0 of the TSRG website: https://tsrg.org. The site was developed by , a team led by Bharat Mabbu (Nivedita Neythalath, Jahnavi Mamidi, Sowjanya Yenamala, Sushma Talamanchi, and Lakshmi Elluru).
