For more than 4 years, a group of committed doctors, patients, and policy experts have been working to raise awareness about the risk of patients developing BIND (benzodiazepine-induced neurological dysfunction) when benzodiazepines are taken as prescribed for more than 2 - 4 weeks. Carrie Silvernail, RN, and Steve Wright, MD, have comprehensively summarized this risk and the importance of providers communicating it to patients prior to initiation in their journal article: https://link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.1007/s12325-022-02055-y.pdf!

Thank you for your contribution to the public discourse on this class of medications.

100,000 Americans died of drug overdoses in 12 months during the pandemic 11/17/2021

Opioid prescriptions unleashed a wave of opioid use disorder that is now spiraled into epic proportions. Today, fentanyl is so lethal that one use or one fake pill can cause death. We must turn this around.

100,000 Americans died of drug overdoses in 12 months during the pandemic The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said a record number of Americans died of drug overdoses in the 12 months ending April 2021. Overdose deaths have doubled since 2014, and fentanyl now is responsible for more than 60 percent of overdose fatalities.
