Eagle's Nest Familes, Friends, and Supporters,
Despite our best efforts Eagle's Nest is moving forward with the planned closure of our center. The last day of care will be November 21st 2023. The county made the decision that even with our strides in fundraising and planning they will not fund us in 2024. As a non-profit we cannot survive without funding from our very own county so we will have to close. We are working on the logistics of returning the Save Eagle’s Nest GoFundMe donations.
We appreciate the support and are devasted to close our doors after 27 years in operation. It was our pleasure to watch your children grow and thrive.
Thank you for your support.

Gilpin County's only early learning center set to close due to financial issues Gilpin County's only early learning center is closing in less than two weeks because it doesn’t have enough money to stay open through the rest of the year.

Dear Eagles Nest Families,
As a non-profit 501(c)3 organization Eagles’ Nest relies heavily upon support from our community in the way of direct funding and grants to keep our tuition low and our quality of care high. This year we are experiencing a deficit due to capital improvement projects in 2022/2023, increases in cost, and due to a decrease in the funding from local and state entities.
In July 2023 we raised tuition to attempt to neutralize the deficit. We have been working closely with the County Commissioners who have been advising us and helping us identify our gaps. Gilpin County owns our building and they do provide a portion of our overall financial support in the way of yearly funding and, this year, emergency funding so they have been heavily involved in our process.
Earlier this week we made the decision to end care in our preschool room as of today,11/09/23, in an effort to allow us to continue the greater center’s operation. Even with the tuition increase earlier in the year, the closure of the Pre-K Room, and efforts by the board and staff to cut expenses and increase funding, Eagles’ Nest is still running at a deficit which is not sustainable.
Our intention was to remain in business to provide your children with the same great care we always have but we are unable to fill the revenue gap.
We regret the limited amount of time that parents have been given to find other childcare options but to be able to compensate our employees and debtors, the difficult decision was made that our last day of operation for the entire center is currently scheduled for Wednesday, November 22, 2023.
We will continue to be in communication as new information arises. If you have a desire to be part of an effort to keep Eagles’ Nest from closing it’s doors please contact us.
Sincerely,
Eagles’ Nest Board of Directors
In response to yesterday's post I would like to clarify some things.
Eagle's Nest Early Learning Center is in a very hard spot financially as you have seen, we have set up a GoFundMe to help us keep our center open. Thursday November 2nd, 2023 we received an email suggesting to close the whole facility November 15th 2023. In a last resort ditch effort to try and still provide care to the majority of our families we decided the most cost effective way to do so was by closing our Preschool Room and food program.
As far as the notice and amount of time we gave parents to plan, and our staff to prepare it was not appropriate. We also were faced with making a rushed decision with the timing of the email from the commissioners. It was a vey hard choice with an outcome no one is happy about. But it was close the whole center or try to fight to keep a vital service that has been here for over 20 years running. Could things have been done different 100%.
We can not move forward with negatives we have to try and push through and stay positive. We are a non profit center with a Board, if you are interested in joining please feel free to reach out to [email protected].
As far as the county commissioners go they do not really play a role in how the center is run. We have a BoCC who sits in as an advisory board member, she is not part of the voting process.
I know everyone has opinions and I am not saying they are right or wrong but please remember we are all human and this is a very stressful time for all involved. When things spiral out of control on Facebook false information spreads and rumors get started.
Be understanding, we are trying our hardest to navigate the best we can. As always a big thank you to our wonderful staff and families.
Thank you
