Built in 1891, The Oxford is not only one of the best hotels in Denver: it’s also an iconic landmark and historical site. Back in the 19th century, the hotel was a tourist attraction in and of itself, with visitors flocking to it to take a ride on the Mountain West’s first elevator. Today, you’ll notice artifacts of that storied history at every turn in the Oxford, whose spacious hallways had to be built wide enough to accommodate two women walking side by side in the era’s massive round petticoat gowns. The standard of service in this Denver luxury hotel hasn’t slipped a bit, and the historic rooms have been well designed to integrate touches of modern luxury. The location just a few meters from Union Station is perfect too. Oh, and be sure to head downstairs to check out The Cruise Room, the oldest bar in Denver, which served as an underground speakeasy during Prohibition.

Located in the Cherry Creek neighborhood of Denver, the Halycon offers by far the most luxurious rooms and amenities of any hotel I’ve personally seen in Denver. Plus it sports easily the best rooftop pool in town. The folks behind the Halcyon strive to curate an experience that is less like staying in a hotel and more like having your own home in Denver. The contemporary rooms include thoughtful touches like functioning record players, Jonathan Adler bath products, and beds you can just melt into. You can also grab coffee or a glass of wine at each floor’s “Kitchen Table,” plus they literally and figuratively lay a welcome mat out in front of your door! Spring for the suites for a spacious apartment-style living experience, some of which come with private balconies complete with loungers. And don’t forget to stop by the Halcyon’s expansive rooftop bar, which is worth a visit for the views even if you’re staying in a different Denver hotel.

If I could only pick one hotel to recommend in Denver, without knowing anything more about your trip, I would recommend The Maven. It’s perfect for just about every type of Denver traveler. The Maven is situated smack dab in the center of town and offers super clean and comfortable accommodations that won’t require you to spend your entire vacation budget on a room. It’s also perched above Dairy Block, a hip urban micro district filled with bars and restaurants, as well steps from some of Denver’s best attractions like Coors Field, Union Station, and the RiNo arts district. The beds are extremely comfortable, the rooms offer a modern chic decor, and many have balconies perfect for relaxing and taking in the views of Denver. The prices are super reasonable too, especially when you consider the location and quality of this hotel!
