A job change is not just a career move. It can also reset your Wealthspan. New EBRI research shows that changing jobs often changes retirement-plan eligibility, which makes every transition a smart time to review plan access, contribution rates, employer match rules, old 401(k) accounts, and health benefits.

A new JAMA Network Open study adds a careful, useful piece to the brain-health conversation: among older adults without dementia, higher diet quality was associated with lower later dementia risk, including in some people with elevated Alzheimer-related and neurodegeneration blood biomarkers. This is not proof that a healthy diet prevents dementia. It is a reminder that healthspan is built from patterns: food quality, movement, blood pressure, metabolic health, sleep, hearing and vision care, social connection, and follow-up.

The real healthspan goal is not only avoiding one diagnosis. It is preventing chronic conditions from stacking up in ways that narrow independence, mobility, energy, and quality of life. A new JAMA 21-year follow-up of the Diabetes Prevention Program found that adults with prediabetes who were assigned to intensive lifestyle intervention had lower long-term multimorbidity risk compared with placebo. Metformin did not show a statistically significant reduction for this specific outcome. The takeaway is not hype. It is a reminder that sustained movement, nutrition, metabolic health, and support systems are long-game tools for aging well.

The 2026 catch-up contribution window is a tool—not a race.

Many late-career savers have more room to contribute to retirement accounts in 2026. But bigger contribution limits don't automatically create a stronger retirement plan.

A true Wealthspan approach looks beyond retirement account balances. It also considers:
✅ Cash flow
✅ Emergency reserves
✅ Healthcare costs
✅ Retirement readiness
✅ Long-term flexibility

Before increasing contributions, ask whether the move strengthens your overall financial resilience without creating new vulnerabilities elsewhere.

The goal isn't simply to maximize contributions. The goal is to build a plan that supports independence, flexibility, and healthy aging.

Healthy aging isn't complicated—but it is hard.

Once a year, check in on five areas: how you move, how strong and energized you feel, how clearly you think, how your mood and social connection are doing, and whether vision or hearing changes are making life harder.

A new semaglutide study found changes in several biological aging markers. That is interesting, but it is not the same as proving longer life, reversed aging, or better function for everyone.
This week’s Healthspan post explains what the study actually showed, why the population matters, and how to think about “biological age” headlines without falling for hype.

Health-care costs are not just a medical issue. They are a Wealthspan issue. New AARP data show that many adults 50+ feel financially squeezed, while KFF reports that nearly half of Medicare beneficiaries age 65+ expect health costs to become less affordable in the next year.

The practical move: make health-care costs part of your annual retirement review, not an afterthought. Read this week’s post for the key numbers and a simple checkup framework.

Blood pressure control is a major part of healthy aging. But the medication has to be tolerable enough to keep taking.

A new JAMA analysis found that side effects and medication discontinuation differ across blood pressure drug classes and combinations. That matters because dizziness, swelling, cough, or fatigue should not be ignored, and they also do not always mean treatment has failed.

The practical takeaway: if a blood pressure medication feels hard to tolerate, talk with your clinician or pharmacist before stopping. Dose, timing, monitoring, or a different regimen may make the plan more livable.
