🧠 Intelligent purpose: understanding the difference between the handle and the pan — which one will get hot faster? How do we keep ourselves safe with this tool?
🧐 Point of interest: “Can I lift this by myself?” The gorgeous honeycomb pattern inside of the pan.
❌ Control of error: the possibility of injury; knowing that we hold the handle from a safe distance, we keep our arms away from the edges, and we waft if we’d like to smell the ingredients

The last month of Summer is a perfect time to get back into the swing of classroom things.

Waking up and having to be somewhere on time. Listening while an Instructor or teacher is demonstrating. Waiting in a line with classmates. Simple addition and subtraction when considering the impact of tasting too many ingredients. Number and reading practice when shopping in the pantry.

Our students aren’t just cooking, they’re practicing and refining the skills that they’ll need as they move through the world as healthful, independent people.

We’re proud to support different school curriculums with our own, Montessori-inspired, one.

Global cuisines and traditional meals are influenced by a variety of different aspects: geography and climate, cultural and religious influences, and many more.

How do we decide our recipe calendar, grocery shop, and stock our pantry?

We keep S.L.O.W in mind: seasonal, local, organic, whole.

Food is so much more than fuel. It is culture and community. It is warm memories around the table, over a mixing bowl, when a child is able to explain the benefits of a specific food to their families and loved ones.

Spots throughout the rest of the Summer are increasingly limited but we’d be honored to explore Cooking with Summer’s Finest, Around the Campfire, and more with your student chef.

We’re not just teaching students practical kitchen skills like how to chiffonade basil or how to measure liquids correctly, we’re teaching them skills that will last a lifetime.

Patience as water boils or vegetables roast. Taking turns collecting ingredients. Table manners as we enjoy the fruits of our labor together.

💡Tool Spotlight: Silicone Spoon💡

🧠 Intelligent purpose: recognizing the difference between silicone and slotted spoons: which will work best? Will the ingredients slip through the slots? Do we want that?
🧐 Point of interest: the texture of the silicone is interesting and different
❌ Control of error: the wrong end of the spoon is not as helpful. Too large of a scoop means a spill!

You may remember that a silicone spoon was one of the five tools we recommended for continued at-home learning because of its versatility, here’s a few more reasons why.
