Illinois is on it! Law supports the necessity of FREE PLAY as part of the learning and developmental curriculum. It is ILLEGAL to reduce recess as a form of punishment. Research backs the need for free play and the inequity of reduced recess for children in marginalized groups.

The CDC highlights the importance of recess in the developmental benefits for children. It promotes regulation, improved classroom behaviors, executive functioning, motor skills, social skills, and a sense of belonging.

FREE PLAY is a crucial part of learning, but why is it allowed to be taken from vulnerable students that need it MOST?

Recess Recess encourages students to choose a physically activity with peers at all grade levels.
