Everyone is welcome to join our upcoming virtual conversation with longevity economy expert Susan Golden on Tuesday, May 16, 10am PT/1pm ET.

Susan will help all of us, especially Museum professionals, reset our understanding of what an “old person” is; identify and overcome some of the barriers for reaching this population; and consider best practices of organizations that have shifted strategies to reflect the new demographics and achieved success.

We hope you can join us. Register at Gather’s community site: community.gatherlearning.com

We love working with our partners ! And this week is 🌎 Earth Day weekend! Why not visit for a day of celebration and programming presented in partnership with the Association of Ramaytush Ohlone and the American Indian Cultural District.

Join Indigenous artisans and community members as they share practices and stories that are deeply rooted in the California landscape.

Enjoy panel conversations and film in the Kanbar Forum, and an all-day market featuring art and demonstrations on the Plaza.

Come honor the Earth’s original care keepers and explore the complex bonds that Indigenous communities have with the land that gave birth to them.

Ten years ago Getty] acquired this wonderful Rembrandt self-portrait. Intently interested in the expression of human emotion, Rembrandt often used himself as his own model in his early years. Here, in a small and freely painted work, from ~1628, he appears in the guise of a soldier, relaxed and engaging the viewer with a laugh.

For this sophisticated self-portrait, painted at age twenty-one or twenty-two, Rembrandt combines a study of character and emotion (known in Dutch as a tronie) with a rare jovial self-presentation. The lively, short brushwork in the face and brisk handling of the neutral background convey a sense of spontaneity and immediacy.

This is one of a small number of paintings by Rembrandt from the late 1620s executed on copper. You can see it in person Getty] in the East Pavilion Gallery of The Getty Center, or learn more and take a close online at getty.edu anytime

We can’t wait to visit to see Jónsi's FLÓÐ (Flood). Created specifically for the Museum by (Jón Þór Birgisson), lead singer of the world-famous Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós, FLÓÐ is the focus of the artist's first museum exhibition in the United States. It’s on view through July. We love partnering with the National Nordic Museum in Seattle, and original exhibits like this give you an idea why! The exhibition highlights the natural connections between the coastal cities of Seattle and Reykjavik, which became sister cities in 1986. Changing environmental conditions within the gallery will engage the visitors’ senses of hearing, sight, and smell to transport them to the ocean.
