At MSU Denver, we are committed to fostering a campus where LGBTQ+ students feel supported and empowered. Find your community with these resources:

🏳️‍🌈 LGBTQ Student Resource Center – A welcoming space for connection and community. They also offer over 2,000 books and films covering LGBTQ+ topics.

🏳️‍🌈 Gender Institute for Teaching and Advocacy (GITA) – Offers student advocacy and academic pathways through Gender, Women, and Sexualities Studies. (Due to construction, GITA services will be remote during the summer).

🏳️‍🌈 Health Center at Auraria – Provides gender-affirming care, hormone treatments, and mental health services.

🏳️‍🌈 Speech-Language Clinic – Offers FREE gender-affirming voice therapy sessions on campus.

For this month’s , meet Kyla! 🎉 🏍️

As a continuation of AAPI month in May, we are continuing with another inspiring story from our AAPI community, our API Club Vice President!

Kyla, a first-generation Vietnamese, Hmong, and Chinese roadrunner, is set to graduate in Spring 2027, with a degree in Event and Meeting Management and a minor in Sports Media. She is also a member of the Eta Sigma Delta Chapter and hopes to one day work in the motorsport industry.

Kyla chose MSU Denver because she wanted to be part on an inclusive and diverse community, while staying close to home to act as a role model for her little cousins – reminding them that university isn’t just a dream.

One of her most memorable experiences at MSU Denver is being a student employee. Kyla currently handles many roles as the Student Event Coordinator for the Orientation, Transfer, and Reengagement department, as well as the Student Coordinator on the Student Activities Programing Board at CMEI. Both roles have provided Kyla with endless professional and personal development. As challenging as it may be sometimes, Kyla feels fulfilled knowing that the work she is doing matters and it’s making a positive impact on her community. By putting herself out of her comfort zone, she’s met her closest friends, become more outgoing and felt comfortable being herself. At CMEI, she’s had the opportunity to attend the Riverside NACCA Conference, the APAHE Conferences, and event winning the Rising Star Award at the Outstanding Student Awards in 2024. Go, Kyla! 👏 She’s also part of the wonderful team who plans some of the most exciting events on campus, like Roadrunners After Dark (aka RAD).

“I’ll always remember the first RAD. To see the MSU Denver community laughing and having a good time with one another, I’ll never forget that feeling. Both experiences were the first time where I felt like I belonged on campus. The friends, experiences, and mentors I have gained are immeasurable.”

Kyla leaves us with this advice: “When you are authentically yourself, you will find where you belong.”
