We’d like to introduce you to Camila and Rosario, our newest Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education / AmeriCorps members serving at 👋

Each year we are lucky enough to have eeCorps place AmeriCorps members on campus as part of our staff. The goal of the program is to expand environmental education for PreK–12 students and help implement the goals of the Colorado Environmental Education Plan and, well… that’s some mission alignment if we’ve ever seen it 💪

Welcome Camila and Rosario!

Our Artist In Residence, Kalliopi Monoyios, has a new piece hanging in the Hydro Lobby called "Drops in the Ocean."

It's a beautiful quilt made of plastic bags and wrappers rescued from the trash, woven together in concentric rings of warm and cool blues. Kalliopi's work spans jewelry, sculpture, and apparel — and centers on conversations about American consumerism and plastic use. She's turned dental floss into meticulous embroideries and discarded computer cords into elaborate jewelry pieces.

Come check it out the next time you're on campus 💧

We have some really big news here at CSU Spur! Colorado State University President Amy Parsons has selected Mordecai Brownlee to be the next vice president for Denver metro engagement and executive director of CSU Spur, beginning Jan. 1.

Dr. Brownlee joins us from the Community College of Aurora, where he has served as president for the past five years. He brings extensive leadership experience, a keen understanding of Colorado's higher education landscape, and a track record of building partnerships that open doors and help students succeed. We cannot wait for him to join the team and see where his leadership takes our campus next.

Welcome, Dr. Brownlee!

CSU Spur has been a lot of things since we opened four years ago, and we're used to seeing these spaces change and take shape in unexpected ways. Still, it's surreal to see this one become a campus where Colorado State University students learn, study, and build community during their freshman year. We couldn't be happier about it 😊

This week we welcomed more than 50 students into the Spur Start program — more than double last year — as they began their CSU journeys here in Denver. We can't wait to see where this program goes next.

Dolly Parton was a lifelong advocate for many things, one of which she believed in literacy and education for all. Growing up in a large, poor family in rural Tennessee, she watched her own father struggle with never having learned to read — an experience that shaped her belief that every child deserves the chance to fall in love with books, regardless of their family's income or zip code.

Through her Imagination Library, Dolly gifted over 300 million books to young learners around the world — an effort to build a lasting habit of reading and give kids a head start on the language and literacy skills they'll need once they reach the classroom. She was a legend and an icon, and will be remembered as the Queen of Country she was.

Dolly Parton will be missed 🩷

The past year was a big one here on campus! From school groups and community events to new lab tenants and funded research projects, CSU Spur continues to grow as a hub for education, impact, and innovation.

“Our work is tightly woven into CSU’s land-grant mission of expanding educational access and opportunity for all residents. CSU Spur takes that mission to a new level – showing what higher education can do when we engage the public directly, ask questions together and meet community needs in real time.” - Rico Munn, Executive Vice Chancellor, CSU System & Vice President for Metro Denver Engagement and Strategy at CSU, and James Pritchett, Vice President for Engagement and Extension at CSU
