With so many tubs arriving everyday we want to do a quick post on setting up the tub itself. As well as proper protocol when your spawn makes it to the tub.
Setting up the tub:
Magnets are placed top and bottom of each hole on the inside of the tub.
Patches are placed on the pre-cut holes all around the tub.
Magnetic Tin covers are placed on the patches themselves and will seal the tub during the colonizing phase from the outside.
(Some even swap this and put the patches inside, magnets outside etc.)
Once your substrate begins showing signs of primordia growing and small pins, begin slowly opening the tins.
The order and sequence of what holes you open up first can depend highly on what your ambient airflow and humidity is like.
Where we’ve seen best results is when cultivators have a box fan or some source of flowing air in the general vacinity of the tub and they slowly open up the tins over a period of 3-5 days depending on how fast your mushrooms are fruiting to allow for the CO2 rich air to be replaced gradually with O2 rich air. Having a humidifier or fogger in the room can also help keep the tub environment from drying out. Climate can have a big impact here as well.
For the second flush, typically the tins will be placed back in the fully closed position. A good misting is usually sufficient though some cultivators will add water to their substrate in a variety of ways which you can investigate further and let us know what you find works best for you!
