We had such a great time bringing a customized version of our Interacting with People with Disabilities (IWD) training to the first responders of Rock Hill Fire & EMS!

Their team was engaged, thoughtful, and ready to learn—and we loved every minute of it! Creating training that equips first responders to better understand, communicate with, and support people with disabilities is what we’re all about.

A huge thank you to the City of Rock Hill, SC and Rock Hill Fire for investing in their team and making disability awareness a priority in your community. We’re grateful to have been part of such a fun and meaningful training!

Our thoughts go out to our partner agency, Colorado State Patrol today. We pray for complete and swift healing for the two troopers who were shot on a traffic stop this morning. We are thinking of you and all of our brothers and sisters in blue. Stay strong.

Help! We are adding a new section to our disability awareness training focused on what it's really like to parent a child with special needs — the everyday realities that people don't see.
To make this training as real and useful as possible, we want to hear directly from you.
If you're a parent or caregiver of a child with disabilities, we'd love to know:
• What's the hardest part of being a special needs parent that most people don't see or understand?
• What are the "good, bad, and/or ugly" parts of special needs parenting?
Your experiences will help us train officers to respond with more patience, awareness, and respect during interactions with your family.

I’ll go first:
The good: the love and joy she shares that is not influenced by her peers or society. She still hugs and holds my hand and shows genuine joy at things her typical peers would not.
The bad: the judgement of other people thinking and even expressing to me that I am not doing enough to help them or doing too much and coddling either of my kids.
The ugly: ALWAYS feeling exhausted. Feeling guilty when any fleeting selfish thought enters my mind “When will this get easier?” “I wish she could just TELL me what she needs.” “Sometimes I wish she was typically-abled” etc.

We're heartbroken by the loss of three wildland firefighters - Emily Barker, Nick Hutcherson, and Sydney Watson - who lost their lives Saturday battling the wildfire near the Colorado-Utah border. Two others were injured.

They gave everything to protect lives and communities. Our deepest sympathy goes out to their families, their crews, and the entire fire community, and our thoughts remain with those still on the front lines.

On July 1st at NASRO 2026, I'll be presenting on supporting students with disabilities in school-based law enforcement settings. Attendees will learn practical strategies to prevent inadvertent escalation, along with the legal pathways for accessing critical information contained in IEPs, 504 Plans, and BIPs.

Our hearts go out to our brothers and sisters at the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office for this tragic and senseless loss.

Larimer County, we’re heartbroken to share information about a sudden and tragic loss within our agency.

On June 16, an LCSO Deputy, Sergeant, and Sergeant’s family member were vacationing together on a motorcycle trip. The men were traveling on a North Idaho scenic highway when a pickup truck attempted to pass another vehicle in a marked no-passing zone. The truck crossed the double yellow centerline and collided with the motorcycles, killing all three riders.

The truck driver was arrested and booked into the Idaho County Jail on three counts of vehicular manslaughter. Idaho State Police are investigating this crash.

Out of respect for their families’ strong desire for privacy, we aren’t identifying the deputies at this time.

There are no good words in a situation like this. Put simply, these were incredible people who dedicated their lives to making Larimer County better every single day. They trained hard, they served well, and they loved life. As we walk the long and winding path of grief alongside their families, our resolve is stronger than ever:

For them, we’ll bring light into dark places.
For them, we’ll stand for good and fight against evil.
For them, we’ll live each day with gratitude and carry their legacy forward.

Rest easy, brothers. We’ve got it from here. 💙
