We all have our moments, but being kind to others and ourselves is crucial especially as a newer hairdresser. Here’s why:

Creating the salon environment we desire: When we are kind to our coworkers and clients, we create a positive work environment. This can lead to better teamwork, creativity, and overall job satisfaction.

Building trust with clients: Being kind to our clients helps to build trust and a strong relationship. This can lead to repeat business and referrals.

Mental Wellness: Practicing kindness can have a positive impact on our mental health. By focusing on the needs of others, we can take our minds off of our own problems and reduce stress.

Personal Growth: When we are kind to ourselves, we give ourselves the space to make mistakes and learn from them. This leads to personal and professional growth, and ultimately make us better hairdressers.

Remember, being kind to others and ourselves is not only important for our personal well-being, but it can also have a positive impact on our careers. This is a smaller industry than people realize! Let’s strive to be kind humans in and out of the salon.

Consistency is key when it comes to growing your professional beauty brand on social media! By maintaining a regular presence, you can build trust with your audience, establish your brand identity, and attract new followers. Here are three simple ways to help stay consistent and show up online:

🗓️ Develop a content calendar and stick to it. This will help you plan out your posts in advance and ensure that you’re creating a mix of different content types and when you’ll want to bring clients into the fun.

✂️ Use consistent branding across all of your social media channels. This means using the same profile picture, cover photo, color scheme, and tone of voice across all platforms. This will help your followers recognize and remember your beauty brand more easily.

👋🏽 Engage with your audience consistently. Respond to comments and direct messages in a timely manner, and make sure to show appreciation for your followers by liking and commenting on their posts as well. This will help build a sense of community around your brand and encourage people to keep coming back for more.

Remember, social media is all about building relationships with your audience. By staying consistent, you can strengthen those relationships and ultimately grow your brand!

Hey Cosmo babies, barber students and anyone going to school for professional beauty… go ahead and hit the save button for this one. We’re talking calls-to-action to use on social media while you’re still in beauty/barber school.

A call to action (CTA) is a phrase that encourages the audience to take a specific action after viewing a social media post. It can be important in social media because it prompts the audience to engage with the content, increasing the likelihood of your audience doing the thing you want them to do, such as clicking your booking button or DMing you with questions. Let’s take a look at some useful examples:

✂️ Book a Consultation: As a cosmetology student, you’re always looking for new clients to showcase your skills. Encourage potential clients to book a consultation with you to discuss their hair or grooming needs.

🫶 Follow Me on Social Media: Social media is a great way to showcase your work and attract new clients. Encourage people to follow you on social media to stay up-to-date on your latest creations and offers.

👯 Refer a Friend: Word of mouth is a powerful tool in the beauty industry. Encourage your satisfied clients to refer their friends and family to you for their hair and grooming needs.

💇🏽 Try a New Look: As a cosmetology student, you’re always learning new techniques and styles. Encourage your clients to try a new look with you to showcase your skills and help them feel confident and the most like themselves.

Your resume isn’t just a document - it’s the first showcase of your artistic flair! Remember, a stunning resume can be your ticket to standing out in this creative industry. Here’s why:

✂️ A resume is often your first introduction to salons and clients. It’s not just about listing your skills and experiences; it’s about presenting your unique style and passion for hairdressing. This is your chance to make a memorable first impression!

📸 Including a headshot on your resume? Here’s why it’s a game changer:

1. Visual Recall: Humans are generally visual creatures, and we tend to remember images better than text. A headshot can create a stronger and longer-lasting impression in the mind of the viewer.

2. Personal Connection: Seeing a face creates a personal connection, making your resume feel less like a document and more like an introduction to a person. This personal touch can make someone think about you for a longer period after they’ve put your resume down.

Your resume is your personal brand ambassador. Make it count!

When we talk about “social currency” we refer to the value people earn or receive through their social presence and online activity.

We have seen such a huge change in the last 10 years based on social currency so it is definitely relevant in hair industry.

In the last decade, people who were virtually unknown before Instagram built huge value for product companies and were given major brand deals. We see it over and over… incredibly talented artists passed over for positions because their follower account isn’t high enough.

So how do we increase our own personal social currency? By creating valuable content, engaging with followers, and building relationships.

Because social is just that…. Social.

So while you are on your journey to gain followers and influence, take a moment to support your fellow stylist.
