Here’s your reminder that if you aren’t wearing your baby (fury or not 😂) you absolutely should! Rowan seriously prefers to be held 90% of the time much like human babies at this age 😅 not only does it make it sooooo much easier to get things done but the benefits of baby wearing are incredible. Of course as a sleep consultant I always encourage putting baby down on a safe sleep approved surface for all sleeps but this is also a great way to provide a contact nap for your LO & not be nap trapped on the couch! This is the boba wrap (available on Amazon) and I recommend it to all of my doula clients for the newborn stage 🤍
Silent Nights Sleep Consulting
Hi I'm Kirsty, I am a certified pediatric sleep consultant and postpartum doula serving CO & CA!
Operating as usual
Does your child need to be fed in order to fall asleep?
If you’re ready to stop feeding to sleep here’s how:
•start by establishing a bedtime routine
•move the feed to the beginning of the routine
•feed in a well lit area to try to prevent your little one from falling asleep during the feed
•if your child is waking up frequently to eat in order to fall back asleep, it might be time to start night weaning (so long as your baby is approved by your ped and old enough to sleep through the night without eating)
•you can start night weaning by reducing the amount of time you’re breastfeeding in the middle of the night or reducing the amount of ounces consumed
•make sure to replace those oz during the day so baby isn’t hungry at night anymore
Hi friends! After taking a little content creation break I am back! I took a vacation to hang out with my besties in CA, got back to CO and took some time off for myself. Anyway, let’s talk swaddles! I’ve mentioned in previous posts that swaddles are amazing for infants because they help baby feel super cozy and secure while battling the Moro (startle) reflex. These are a few swaddles I use myself as an NCS and recommend to my clients based on their baby’s needs. Stay tuned for my next post on my favorite sleep sacks for older infants! 🤍🌙
Let’s talk white noise! I’ve mentioned how important white noise is in previous posts, but these are my favorite sound machines that I actually use and recommend to parents! Check out previous posts for more info on white noise 🌙

Just wrapped up another 2 week consult with my amazing client 🤍 and this right here, is my why. I have so much gratitude that my clients trust me to help them with their babies sleep and seeing the positive impact sleep improvement has on the entire family unit is so fulfilling.
We used a gradual approach, and baby girl was sleeping through the night by night 3 and had nights and naps down before our two weeks ended! You don’t have to be exhausted, you don’t have to use cry it out, there’s no shame in asking for help. It takes a village and I’m honored to be apart of it 🤍🌙
P.S if you’re looking for a birth doula, is your girl!
As a sleep consultant I talk to many families who want to teach their child the valuable skill of independent sleep, but many who have misconceptions about sleep training don’t think they want to sleep train because of the cry it out method. There are MANY sleep training methods that allow you to support your child while teaching them independent sleep and my job is to write sleep plans customized to your family. I’ll never ask you to do anything that doesn’t align with your parenting philosophy or family values 🤍
Sleep training is safe, effective, extremely valuable, and will not negatively impact your bond with your child.
DM me a 😴 if you’re ready to make the leap and reclaim your nights 🤍
ABC’s safe sleep.
Alone
Back
Crib
For every sleep infants below the age of 1 should be placed in a safe sleep space designed for infant sleep alone, placed on their back, in an empty crib with no soft bedding or bumpers, just a snug fitted sheet. Sleep sacks and swaddles are safe! Using safe sleep practices is proven to help reduce the SIDS infants. After the Back to Sleep campaign the rates of SIDS dropped by 60%! If your baby can roll onto their belly independently and prefers to sleep that way you do not have to move them, but they should still be placed in the crib on their backs.
In case no one told you, you’re doing great mama 🤍🌙 Happy Monday friends!
Ever done the whole nap routine, spend 30+ minutes trying to get baby to fall asleep, then finally they do and BOOM you have to p*e, like bad. 🙋🏼♀️ hi, it’s me. I love a contact nap once in awhile (who doesn’t!) but I can’t be stuck under a baby 24/7, so in comes the transfer. Younger babies have a super strong Moro reflex that will startle them awake, this is why we swaddle! We also want to put baby down b***y first and slowly lean them back. Once I have one free I like to hold it on their belly or chest until they are down and out 😴. Transfers are super necessary sometimes however it’s also super important to note that babies like falling back asleep the same way they fell asleep, so if you’re using movement to get baby to fall asleep, when their sleep cycle ends and they realize the conditions are different, they’ll wake up and you’re back to square one. This is why teaching independent sleep is so important!
Figured it's probably time to formally introduce myself on my little corner of the pediatric sleep world! Hi, I'm Kirsty, a double certified sleep consultant, NCS, and infant nanny. I get to hang out with the sweetest 9 month old while virtually supporting parents and I love what I do! There is nothing more valuable to me than seeing the positive changes I help make in homes, families, and relationships, by allowing them to reclaim their sleep. Thanks for being here!
Mamas who pump! Did you know the time of day your milk is pumped matters? Breast milk changes composition with day and night. Morning milk is energy producing because it contains higher levels of cortisol to help baby wake up. Milk produced at night contains higher levels of melatonin and nucleotides thought to promote sleep. The last thing you want is your baby consuming energy producing milk right before bed! Next time you bag your milk remember to label it with morning or night so it can be fed at the appropriate time 🌙
Keep an eye out for these signs to know when your baby is ready to sleep 😴 💤
Babies sleep cycles are 45 minutes long, this is why you often have little ones who only nap 30-45 minutes. It is super common for these short naps in the early months and infants typically start linking sleep cycles around 6 months. If you need to transfer a sleeping baby do it around 15 minutes after they fall asleep to ensure they are in a deeper sleep and won’t wake up!
Let’s talk wake windows! Wake windows are simply the average amount of time your baby should be awake in between naps. Every baby is different so your baby’s wake windows may be slightly different than what’s shown above but it should give you a good starting point! You can narrow down your baby’s wake windows by starting a timer from when they wake up to when they start showing sleepy cues. Sleepy cues in infants look like: red eyes or eyebrows, blank stare, less interested in toys, yawning, fussiness, rubbing eyes or face, tugging on ears, avoiding eye contact, arching their back, and jerky movements/having a hard time settling. Once you see sleepy cues it’s time for bed! Following wake windows prevents your child from becoming overtired and grouchy 👹, plus good daytime sleep promotes good nighttime sleep 😴
When parents hear sleep training, often times their first thought is leaving your baby to cry it out from 7-7. This is not true! Sleep training is simply teaching your child how to fall asleep independently at bedtime. There are many different methods to do this from cry it out to way more gradual methods that can involve less crying and a more hands on approach. Sleep training isn’t night weaning and it is possible to sleep train infants who still need night feedings. You do not have to use CIO for sleep training and can still maintain night feeds!

Starting off with some controversy! I often hear parents tell me they want to sleep train but they’re scared of listening to their baby crying for hours. My response is the same every time. Sleep training doesn’t = cry it out! Do I use CIO? The short answer is yes. Is it my go to method? Nope. My job as a sleep consultant is to give you a customized plan that aligns with your family’s values and support you through the process without any judgement. I support parents who want to do CIO and those who want to use a more gradual approach. Can I guarantee there won’t be ANY crying? No, I can’t guarantee there won’t be any crying. Crying is the only way babies have to communicate. Your baby may feel frustrated or confused during sleep training because it’s a change in the routine, and that can result in some crying. How we handle the crying is up to you!
