What if a common water pollutant could become something useful?

Thanks to a grant from the Robert A. Welch Foundation, UNT researchers in the UNT College of Science are developing innovative catalysts that could convert nitrate in water into ammonia, a valuable compound used widely in fertilizer. The project also gives undergraduate and doctoral students hands-on experience with cutting edge environmental research, helping prepare the next generation of scientists.

A conversation in Chilton Hall, a friendly dog and a spark of curiosity about the United Kingdom started it all.

For UNT Sociology alumna Holly Carter, those small moments at UNT led to an extraordinary journey that now has her helping manage events and operations at England's historic Belvoir Castle.

U.S. Army cadet AJ Hogan, a UNT Frank W. and Sue Mayborn School of Journalism student and member of UNT / TWU Army ROTC. He recently completed a grueling 3-week course at the U.S. Army Airborne School at Fort Benning in Georgia.
