REMINDER - CHINESE ENSEMBLE CELEBRATES 10TH ANNIVERSARY: Tonight at 8 in the Music Building Recital Hall, the University of North Texas College of Music Chinese Ensemble, founded and directed by Yuxin Mei, celebrates its 10th anniversary with guests Daniel Pardo, UNT alumnus, members of Dallas' Hua Yun Chinese Orchestra and the Middle Tennessee State University Chinese Music Ensemble, directed by Mei Han, from their Center for Chinese Music and Culture. This concert is FREE. Reception to follow in the Graham Green Room.

Rachel Schuck (PhD student in ethnomusicology) received the Elizabeth May Slater Prize from the Society for Ethnomusicology, offered each year to “recognize the most distinguished student paper or project, presented at the annual SEM conference, in the ethnomusicology of children, youth, or the education or pedagogy of aspects of the world's musical cultures.” Rachel’s paper, which she gave at SEM in 2025, was titled “Pathways to Tamil Diaspora Worship through Ragam Education in the U.S.”

On Tuesday, April 7, Kutmasta Kurt will be visiting the Global Pop course to discuss sampling techniques used in hip-hop music production. He will talk about different methods of sampling used through the history of hip-hop and demonstrate his unique techniques and style.

Regarded as a legend of indie and underground hip-hop, Kutmasta Kurt has produced beats and remixes from artists ranging from the Beastie Boys to Linkin Park. He has worked extensively with Kool Keith and more recently with stalwart German rapper Retrogott.

Founded with the mission to promote Mexican culture through music, Mariachi Águilas de UNT has become a beloved part of the UNT community and beyond. Please join us as we celebrate this rich culture!
