Have you started planning your Summer 2025 schedule? We would like to invite you enrolling in the 10-week summer session, May 19 - July 25, 2025 – the graduate course (developed with federal funding by a team including Drs. Ana Roeschley, Oksana Zavalina, Brian O’Connor, Mark Phillips, and Shobhana Chelliah) that might be relevant to your interests: INFO 5385 Community Language Archiving and Curation for Information Professionals. The deadline to apply was extended till March 15, 2025.

Dear Health Informatics students,
Have you started planning your Summer 2025 schedule?

We would like to invite you to enroll in the 10-week summer (May 19 - July 25, 2025) graduate course (developed with federal funding by a team including Drs. Ana Roeschley, Oksana Zavalina, Brian O’Connor, Mark Phillips, and Shobhana Chelliah) that might be relevant to your interests: INFO 5385 Community Language Archiving and Curation for Information Professionals.

Taking INFO 5385 has multiple benefits:

1. This online course is a great fit for those of you who are interested in learning about archives, digital content management, digital curation, information organization, etc. as they apply to health informatics and beyond

2. Based on its content, INFO 5385 course can be counted for:
a) A general electives area of the UNT MS Health Informatics degree plan
b) A concentration electives area of the UNT Information Science (IS) PhD program with concentration in Health Informatics
c) Any of these 3 topic areas in the UNT MS IS or MS Library Science (LS) degree plan (either general studies program or a concentration program):
🔹Information Behavior and Digital Content Management
🔹Management, Administration and Specialized Information Services, and
🔹Knowledge Organization, Access and Retrieval.
d) Any of the 3 general areas of emphasis in UNT IS PhD program (general program of studies):
🔹Information Theory and Design
🔹Information and Behavior
🔹Information Policy and Management.

3. INFO 5385 can be taken free-of-charge as UNT COI graduate students who enroll in it this Summer qualify for tuition waiver funded by the external sponsor (Institute of Museum and Library Services). Limited numbers of INFO 5385 tuition waivers are available, so students interested in applying for Summer 2025 INFO 5385 tuition waiver need to complete the brief online form through the QR code by February 15, 2025. Title of the Presentation: Machine Learning to Identify Patients Most Likely to Benefit from Pharmacogenetic Testing.

Speaker: Julio D. Duarte, Pharm.D., Ph.D., FAHA, Associate Professor, Co-Director, Center for Pharmacogenomics and Precision Medicine, Graduate Coordinator, Clinical Pharmaceutical Science, Department of Pharmacotherapy and Translational Research, College of Pharmacy, University of Florida.

Dr. Duarte’s research primarily focuses on: (1) the biological mechanisms underlying left heart failure progression, and (2) the clinical implementation of preemptive pharmacogenetic testing, particularly in medically underserved patient populations. His NIH-funded laboratory conducts translational research attempting to discover genomic predictors of drug response, as well as using genomics and transcriptomics to identify novel targets for future drug development.

Health Informatics Program is pleased to announce a program as part of the Health Informatics Series “Chat with a Health Professional” on October 16, 2024, via Zoom at 6:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m. central. You will be learning about drug information, discovery, safety, and the challenges of how to integrate the results from the data analytics protocols established at MD Anderson.
Title: Advancing Drug Discovery & Safety: The Role of Information and Analytics in a Healthcare Setting

Presenters: Five experts from the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center, will be joining us: Mila Drasen, PharmD; Jennifer Welch, PharmD; Mara Villanueva, PharmD; Adriana Rivera, PharmD; and Chun Feng, MS. The moderator of the program will be Dr. James Spence, Manager, Pharmacy Quality Improvement and Analytics, Division of Pharmacy—Quality and Regulatory.
