The Lotus Family Support Center Birth doulas support mothers and their partners throughout the birthing process.

Philosophy

At the LFSEC whole child whole family means we support families in understanding the development of their child from utero to 18 years of age because we believe parenting starts at conception. Providing families with information about their pregnancy, the physical changes the mother's body will undergo and the emotional changes she and her partner will experience.

The impact of childhood trauma is passed down from generation to generation this is known as epigenetic. As a parent healing from my own trauma I am still learning the full impact of it on my own children. As we heal together my children will be better parents than I.

Black women are 3 to 4 times more likely to die during childbirth.

"The maternal mortality rate for 2020 was 23.8 deaths per 100,000 live births compared with a rate of 20.1 in 2019 (Table). In 2020, the maternal mortality rate for non-Hispanic Black women was 55.3 deaths per 100,000 live births, 2.9 times the rate for non-Hispanic White women."

As he says in the video, that postpartum aka the fourth trimester; can be the hardest. Here are some additional help suggestions for the new mom in your life:
đź’•Rally family together to cook a few meals for the home. Make feeding the of moms family one less thing to worry about. is a great app to schedule who will cook what meals on what day.
đź’•Offer to keep an eye on baby while indulges in some self-care time. This may include reading a couple of chapters of a book, having a meal without baby in her arms or taking an uninterrupted nap.
đź’•Schedule a time to visit. While the rest of the home is off to work and school mom is home alone and would love to share her new mom experiences with you.
