In order to get everything out of your premarital experience, we have to get past the comfort zone, through the fear zone, and into the learning zone and especially into the growing zone. If we stay in the comfort zone, odds are you won’t have as rich of conversations, you won’t explore tough topics before marriage, and you won’t gain new skills as easily.

We cannot say this enough. Weekly dates are underrated, especially in covid times when going out isn’t what it used to be.

Because here’s the thing... after you’ve been together for a while, we fall into a routine — and with a little bit of effort, that routine can look like one that’s nourishing our marriage, that fosters intimacy, that makes time for play and romance — or it can really easily look like the opposite... IF we don’t build this habit early on.

That means we’ve got to get creative. Google can be our friend here. Find a new hobby together. Take a long walk. Blast some tunes and bake together. Whatever you do as a date, do it with intention, put away those phones, and give your partner your undivided attention.

Dates can also help us do the crucial job of creating space for open communication to flow. Hence it’s so important that we keep dating our partner on a regular basis.
