Future Leader Friday: Study Abroad Edition 🌎✨

Meet Fyona Woldu, a sophomore in the MAK College of Business & Entrepreneurship and recipient of the Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant during her study abroad experience in Barcelona, Spain! 🇪🇸

While abroad, Fyona is gaining hands-on international work experience, exploring a new culture, and broadening her perspective as a future business professional.

“Living and working in Barcelona allows me to grow both personally and professionally by learning from a different business environment, exploring the city’s rich history, and building meaningful connections with people from around the world.”

Her advice to students considering studying abroad?

“Take the risk and apply, even if you don’t think you’re qualified. You never know what’s possible until you try.”

This week, we’re highlighting Eliana 🍓 , who is spending the summer as a Tax Intern at The CJ Group !

Through this internship, Eliana is gaining hands-on experience in tax accounting, building meaningful professional connections, and learning from the firm’s talented team. One of the highlights of the experience has been the opportunity to work alongside fellow TWU students and alumni.

This week, we’re highlighting Stephanie Ortiz, a senior accounting student at TWU!

After serving six years in the United States Air Force, Stephanie is now pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting while preparing for a career in finance.

This summer, Stephanie is interning with Brinker International as a Financial Reporting Intern, gaining hands-on experience in financial reporting and account reconciliation.

Stephanie’s long-term goals include becoming a Financial Analyst, earning a master’s degree, obtaining a CPA license, and proudly representing TWU as an alumna.

This week, we’re highlighting Mackenzie Askew, an MSA student at TWU interning with KPMG!

Last summer, Mackenzie participated in KPMG’s Embark Scholars Program in Dallas, where there was an opportunity to explore audit, tax, and advisory. The experience confirmed an interest in audit while providing valuable insight into the many career paths within public accounting and fostering lasting connections with fellow interns and professionals.
That experience led to a return offer to join KPMG’s Houston office as a Summer 2026 Audit Intern.

As Mackenzie pursues a Master’s in Accounting at TWU, the goal is to build a career in audit by combining analytical thinking, collaboration, and relationship-building to help clients succeed.

Dane Peterson, Chief Operating Officer at Children’s Health, will present a guest lecture on Clinical–Academic Partnerships in Major Health Systems. His leadership experience spans 20+ years, including senior roles at Emory Healthcare and his current work guiding the Children’s Health–UT Southwestern Medical Center partnership.

The session offers an inside look at how major clinical and academic systems collaborate, align, and grow together.

This week we are spotlighting Amireli Saenz, who will be spending the summer interning with TexasBank in Fort Worth!

For the next 10 weeks, Amireli will gain foundational training in banking operations while working closely with the accounting team and building hands-on industry experience. 💼📈

“I’m looking forward to learning more about banking operations, working with the accounting team, and gaining real-world experience throughout this internship.”
