DMA STUDENT TO UTAH STATE: Patrick Overturf has been announced as Visiting Assistant Professor of Percussion at Utah State University. A DMA student in Percussion Performance at the University of North Texas Overturf will join the faculty as a percussion instructor this fall.

GRADUATE CAST IN DÜSSELDORF AND DUISBURG OPERAS: The Deutsche Oper am Rhein has announced that University of North Texas graduate Bree Nichols (DMA ’21) will perform the title role in Giacomo Puccini's “Manon Lescaut” and the title role of Gustave Charpentier's “Didon” in their 2026/2027 Season. JUST ANNOUNCED—AMERICAN VIOLA SOCIETY HONORS GERLING: At the closing ceremony of the American Viola Society AVS Festival, University of North Texas Associate Professor of Viola, Daphne Gerling, was presented with the AVS Founders Award. The notification letter from festival coordinator, Christina Ebersohl-Van Scyoc, reads, “On behalf of the American Viola Society, I am delighted to share the wonderful news that you have been selected as the 2026 recipient of the AVS Founders Award—a high honor recognizing extraordinary contributions in performance, scholarship, composition, instrument building, philanthropy, and service to the AVS community. Your work has had a profound and lasting impact, and this award is a reflection of your tremendous dedication, talent, and generosity.”
