We're proud to share that Dr. Xun Bian of the G. Brint Ryan College of Business, in collaboration with Dr. Hanchen Jiang of UNT’s College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences, has been awarded a $30,000 grant from the Research Institute for Housing America (RIHA), the research arm of the Mortgage Bankers Association.
Their project on housing affordability and rent control takes on a central question in housing policy: whether rent control reaches the households it is intended to protect.
The grant also builds on UNT's growing reputation in real estate and urban economics. In the 2026 Real Estate Academic Leadership (REAL) Rankings, published in the Journal of Real Estate Literature, UNT ranked 19th in the world for real estate research productivity, a reflection of our expanding influence in the field and our standing as a Carnegie R1 research institution.
This is what research at the G. Brint Ryan College of Business is built to do: answer the questions that matter most to the people living with the consequences of housing policy, and put that evidence in the hands of the leaders shaping what comes next.
