Congratulations, Andrea Ortega!
We are proud of your great work in both chemistry and in Teach North Texas. You are an amazing leader as the historian for Talon Teach, our TNT student organization.
Let's hear it for our 2025-26 scholarship recipients! Every fall we share some of their stories to cheer them on and help remind our awesome COS majors: this could be you! Scholarship applications are now open at cos.unt.edu/scholarships and the time to get started is now! ππ¦
UNT Chemistry major Andrea Ortega received the Westheimer Science Research award as well as a Teach North Texas Greater Texas Foundation scholarship this year! Just like our scholarship donors, she's looking forward to inspiring future generations of scientists and dreamers.
"I am most passionate about aiming to mend educational gaps by researching ways to liberate students from a one-size-fits-all education while advocating for more accessible educational resources to be used as I pursue a career in STEM education," she said. "My goal as a future educator is to give students the confidence to tackle complex problems head-on without fear."
