Recital: Hope Will Never Be Silent

Join Dr. Charles “Chappy” Gibb and Heather Neuenschwander for a powerful recital presentation at Flute Fest 2026, with special guest oboist LaBarrin Wallace.

This special performance will highlight expressive repertoire and collaborative artistry, bringing together flute and oboe in a program titled Hope Will Never Be Silent.

Flute Fest 2026

Flute Fest is UMFA’s annual celebration of our shared love of the flute. The day features competitions, masterclasses, workshops, performances, exhibits from flute vendors, and opportunities to connect with the flute community.

Congrats to senior flute performance major Shane Salinas who has passed 100% of his graduate school prescreenings which included Rice, Yale, Rutgers, Carnegie Mellon, University of Maryland, and University of Wisconsin. Bravo!!
Shane is a first generation college student who won a fellowship with the National Orchestral Institute as a junior last summer. Fabulous! We look forward to great things from him. Best of luck in all your auditions, Shane!!

Congratulations to DMA studio alum Dr. Amy Thiemann Leal who has been promoted to Visiting Assistant Professor of Flute and Music Theory at Midwestern State University!! Bravo Amy!! ❤️

Dr. Amy Thiemann is a flutist, passionate educator, and avid chamber musician based in Fort Worth, Texas. She currently serves as Principal Flute with the Sherman Symphony, Piccolo with Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra, and is Visiting Assistant Professor of Flute and Music History at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Amy is an enthusiastic soloist, and has given guest artist recitals at colleges and music festivals throughout the country, most recently in California, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Wisconsin and Nebraska. Also an accomplished chamber musician, she performs and tours frequently with Madera Winds and Mockingbird Flute Quartet.�

Prior to her appointment at Midwestern State, Amy served as instructor of flute at Concordia University (Nebraska), teaching fellow at the University of North Texas and teaching assistant at Ithaca College.

Amy earned degrees in flute performance from University of North Texas (DMA), Ithaca College (MM), and Hastings College (BM). Her primary teachers include Terri Sundberg, Maria Harding, Jill Felber, Wendy Mehne, and Deborah Johnson.
