North Texas needs more mental health professionals. UNT is helping build the next generation to meet that need. 🧠 💚

Through the North Texas Behavioral Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP), students as young as high school are gaining hands-on research experience, professional training and mentorship — while discovering the many paths a career in behavioral health can take.

Since 2024, 131 students have participated, with more than $413,500 awarded in stipends and research support.

And the impact is just beginning.

Living with aphasia can change the way someone communicates — but it doesn’t have to mean facing recovery alone.

The UNT Aphasia Support Group, hosted by Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology, brings together people with aphasia and their loved ones and caregivers for education, encouragement and honest conversation about recovery.

And this isn’t your typical support group setting. Each month, the group meets at a local restaurant in a relaxed, welcoming environment where participants can share experiences, learn from one another and simply enjoy being together.

Because recovery is about more than finding the words. It’s about finding connection, confidence and a community that understands. 💚

to UNT Dept. of Kinesiology, Health Promotion and Recreation doctoral student Christian Quintero who received the Greg Reid Student Poster Award at the 2026 North American Federation of Adapted Physical Activity (NAFAPA) conference. It recognizes an outstanding student research poster in adapted physical activity. And their honors don't stop there - they also are the recipient of the Texas Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance Texahperd Student Scholarship. It's a competitive statewide award presented to outstanding students based on their academic and professional qualifications, leadership, campus and community involvement, volunteer service and professional goals.
