Proud to celebrate 40 years of Lawrence Heritage State Park this week! Back in 1986, former Governor Michael Dukakis and former Mayor Kevin Sullivan presided over the park’s grand opening, and on Tuesday our community gathered to honor that legacy.

I attended alongside Jaden Belizaire, our Special Collections and Archives Librarian, with photos courtesy of Yadira Betance.

It was a joy to support our neighbors and celebrate the incredible work of the Friends of Lawrence Heritage State Park, a true model for what we hope to build with our own Friends of the Lawrence Public Library.

Alongside the Lawrence History Center and our library, they continue preserving this city’s story for generations to come.

Today, we embraced the beauty of teamwork during our professional development session! Just before the rain hit, we activated our courtyard, preparing it for a vibrant summer filled with community engagement.

We took this opportunity to collaborate on our summer reading theme, fostering a spirit of camaraderie as everyone came together, regardless of their roles in the library. It was truly inspiring to see our librarians stepping up, offering valuable training sessions for our staff about their departments. This initiative not only enhances our skills but also plays a crucial role in their performance evaluations.

The theme this year resonates deeply with me: it’s all about planting seeds for growth—not just in our individual journeys, but in the growth of our entire city.
