Young people and parents of young people in Louisiana, take note:

Effective August 1, 2026, Louisiana HB 568 (Act 305) creates a felony-level offense for smoking, va**ng, or otherwise using 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐣𝐮𝐚𝐧𝐚 or another controlled dangerous substance in a drug-free school zone.

This law applies on or within 2,000 feet of any public or private K-12 school, vocational school, 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞, 𝐨𝐫 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 in Louisiana, as well as on school buses.

A conviction can result in:
• Up to 1 year in jail (with or without hard labor)
• Up to a $1,000 fine
• A 𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐲 conviction on your permanent record
