🐾 It’s Great to Be a Wildcat! 🐾

Deming Public Schools is ready to welcome our students back on Monday, July 27!

Our administrators, teachers, and staff have been working hard throughout the week—planning, collaborating, and participating in professional development to prepare for a successful 2026–2027 school year.

We kicked off the year with our Wildcat Welcome, featuring keynote speaker Dr. Mario Acosta, an award-winning educator, author, and nationally recognized presenter. Dr. Acosta inspired our team to build safe, supportive, and collaborative school cultures where every student feels valued, connected, and ready to learn.

This week’s training also focused on:

📚 Strengthening reading and mathematics instruction
💙 Supporting student wellness, belonging, and attendance
🎓 Preparing students for college, careers, and life
🧠 Helping students strengthen focus, self-regulation, and social skills
💻 Using technology and artificial intelligence thoughtfully and responsibly
🌎 Creating meaningful learning experiences that connect students with their community and the world beyond the classroom

We are beginning this year with a shared commitment: strong instruction in every classroom, meaningful relationships in every school, and opportunities that help every student succeed.

Join us for Stuff the Bus 2026, a FREE community event where families, businesses, and community members come together to support Deming students by donating school supplies.

🛡️ Keeping Our Schools Safe Together

The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and visitors remain the highest priority for Deming Public Schools. For the 2026–2027 school year, the district is strengthening campus safety through:

✅ Required emergency preparedness drills
✅ The CEIA OPENGATE® Weapons Detection System at intermediate, middle, and high schools
✅ Safety screening and search procedures
✅ Continued collaboration with local law enforcement and first responders

During the first four weeks of school, every campus will conduct at least two fire drills, one shelter-in-place drill, and one evacuation drill. Families will receive emergency notifications only during actual safety incidents that pose a threat—not during routine drills.

📱 Please make sure your contact information in Infinite Campus is current so you receive important notifications by email, text message, and/or phone call.

Students using OPENGATE® should be prepared to remove laptops, tablets, Chromebooks, metal three-ring binders, and other metal cases before screening. Non-metal computer sleeves and plastic containers are recommended to help make entry faster and easier.

Creating safe learning environments is a shared responsibility. Thank you to our students, families, staff, first responders, and community partners for helping us protect every member of our school community.

🚌🎒 BACK TO SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION REMINDER! 🎒🚌

The first day of school is almost here, and Deming Public Schools Transportation is ready to welcome our students back for an exciting 2026–2027 school year! 💙💛

Before the school year begins, here are a few important reminders for families:

✅ Check your child's transportation information in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal to make sure bus transportation is listed correctly.

⏰ Be at the bus stop 15 minutes early before your scheduled pickup time. Buses run on a schedule, and arriving early helps ensure a smooth start to the day.

📝 Bus riders must have a signed Parent & Student Roles & Responsibilities form available through the Parent Portal.

📍 Transportation Eligibility
Students may qualify for transportation based on New Mexico state requirements:
• Grades K–6: 1 mile or more from school
• Grades 7–9: 1½ miles or more
• Grades 10–12: 2 miles or more

🚍 Need transportation to a daycare or another approved location?
Transportation Exception Request Forms (TERFs) are available through the Parent Portal for qualifying situations, including:
✔️ After-school daycare
✔️ Documented safety concerns

¡El nuevo ciclo escolar 2026–2027 está por comenzar y el Departamento de Transporte de Deming Public Schools está listo para dar la bienvenida a nuestros estudiantes! 💙💛

Antes del primer día de clases, te compartimos algunos recordatorios importantes para que todo salga de la mejor manera:

✅ Verifica la información de transporte de tu estudiante en el Portal para Padres de Infinite Campus y asegúrate de que la ruta del autobús aparezca correctamente.

⏰ Llega a la parada del autobús al menos 15 minutos antes de la hora programada. Esto ayudará a que las rutas se mantengan a tiempo y nuestros estudiantes lleguen seguros a la escuela.

📝 Todos los estudiantes que utilicen el transporte escolar deben contar con el formulario de Derechos y Responsabilidades de Padres y Estudiantes firmado, el cual estará disponible en el Portal para Padres.

📍 ¿Quiénes califican para el servicio de transporte?
De acuerdo con los requisitos del Departamento de Educación Pública de Nuevo México (NMPED), los estudiantes pueden ser elegibles si viven al menos:

• Kinder a 6.º grado: 1 milla (1.6 km) o más de la escuela.
• 7.º a 9.º grado: 1½ millas (2.4 km) o más.
• 10.º a 12.º grado: 2 millas (3.2 km) o más.

🚍 ¿Necesitas transporte a una guardería o a otra ubicación aprobada?
Las Solicitudes de Excepción de Transporte (TERF) están disponibles en el Portal para Padres para familias que califican por:

✔️ Cuidado después de clases (guardería o niñera).
✔️ Situaciones documentadas relacionadas con la seguridad del estudiante.

📅 Periodo para solicitar una TERF: Del 6 al 22 de julio de 2026.

Our teachers will contact parents to schedule a home visit. This is a great opportunity to get to know your child's teacher, ask questions, and help make the transition to school a positive one!
