Intensity Color Guard

Intensity Color Guard We are the Intensity Color Guard of the Wildcat Band. The band does not compete or perform with the winter guard.

The Intensity Color guard, under the direction of Allen Ortiz, performs alongside the Wildcat Marching Band at football games and in competitions during the fall throughout New Mexico and Eastern Arizona. The purpose of the color guard is to interpret the music that the band is playing via the synchronized spinning of flags, sabers, & rifles, and through dance. The color guard uses different color

s and styles of flags and equipment to enhance the visual effect of the marching band as whole; occasionally using backdrops to bring color and scenery to the field if the concept of the show is hard to interpret. The number of members in a color guard can range from a single person to over 50 members; often depending on the size of the band, school, allotted budget, and the talent available among the potential members who audition. Winter guard is similar to color guard, except the performances are indoors on gymnasium floors through the winter season. The traditional marching band music heard during fall season is replaced with a recording of any musical genre, and the actual band members may join the winter guard activity. The gymnasium floor typically is covered by an individually designed tarp that generally reflects the show being performed on it. There are several winter guard circuits for participating in competitions during indoor season; the Intensity Winter guard participates in the West Texas Color guard Association.
