Academy of the Holy Angels 146 Years of Empowering Women Through Education! 💙 The Academy of the Holy Angels is an independent college preparatory school for young women.

Established by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1879, Holy Angels is the oldest private school in Bergen County. The Academy is located on a 24-acre campus in Demarest, NJ. Known originally as Holy Angels Collegiate Institute, the Academy attracted students from all over the world. Demarest is an upper middle class community of about 5,000 people located just ten miles from New York City. The p

resent student body comes from 96 cities and towns in NJ and NY. Holy Angels accepts students from many different communities, ethnic backgrounds and religious affiliations.

Angel, Sophia Garzon ‘28, participated in the NovaEdge 2026 engineering program at Villanova University this summer!

Throughout the program, Sophia explored different disciplines within engineering and worked alongside a team to develop a project aimed at protecting Australian homes from destructive bushfires. We are so proud of her initiative and drive to keep exploring STEM!

Class of ’28 student Chelsea Choi spent her summer participating in a research program at Harvard University!

Working alongside a PhD mentor, Chelsea conducted interdisciplinary research combining environmental science and psychology, with the goal of submitting her paper for academic publication. The experience allowed her to deepen her critical thinking and writing skills while exploring her interests in climate change and environmental sustainability.

We love seeing our Angels step up as compassionate leaders! 🪽

Class of ’27 student Sophia Campise spent her summer leading Shelter Shine, a service organization she founded and directs to help renovate and improve shelter conditions across New York City and New Jersey.

Through her summer initiative, The Hoboken Collective by Shelter Shine, Sophia spent time organizing storage areas at The Hoboken Shelter and sorting over 200 pairs of shoes to be distributed directly to those in need throughout Hoboken. This program runs through October, with even more projects currently in the works.

We’re just 2 months away from the 2026 Holy Angels Alumnae Reunion! 💙

Join us on Friday, October 23, 2026, as we welcome Angels back for a day of reconnecting, reminiscing, and celebrating. While we’re especially excited to honor our milestone classes ending in 1 and 6, all alumnae are invited to join the fun!

Here is what we have planned:
☀️ Morning: Mass and Brunch back on campus, followed by campus tours.
🌙 Evening: Dinner, drinks, class photos, and plenty of time to catch up at Hackensack Golf Club.
Come for one event or make a full day of it, we can’t wait to welcome you home!

Class of ’30 student Harlow Pomygalski has stayed busy this summer balancing her passion for art and personal growth. She showcased her artwork in two New Jersey exhibitions before heading to New Hampshire for Camp Bernadette.

While at camp, Harlow is focusing on developing her leadership skills to prepare to serve as a Counselor in Trainer (CIT) for younger campers next year.

We love seeing our Angels pursue academic excellence! 🪽

Class of ’27 student Emma Aika Chang spent her summer participating in the Boston University RISE (Research in Science & Engineering) Program!

Working directly under Professor Ling’s research group in BU’s Chemistry and Engineering departments, Emma focused her research on nanomaterials. She wrapped up the program by showcasing her hard work and presenting her findings at a poster symposium.

We love seeing our Angels combine their passions with giving back! 🪽

Class of ’27 student Sophia Velasco spent her summer making an impact through her newly founded nonprofit, Pointe for a Purpose!

Sophia transforms her used pointe shoes into hand-crafted decorative artwork. Proceeds from her sales are donated to organizations that fund arts education and give children opportunities to experience the arts. She recently showcased her work at the Ocean Grove Arts & Crafts Festival and will be at the Westwood Arts & Crafts Festival on August 23!
