I remember a memory that seems to defy reason.
It's not a memory of a person or a place but one of the weather and a space that was all mine.
The day was warm but not hot, and the breeze was steady but not strong. The air was fresh and sweet, filled with a symphony of birdsong, each note a unique melody.
The rustling of squirrels in the fallen leaves added a playful rhythm to the scene. I remember these sounds from a time when I was too young to articulate what my senses were feeling.
These days followed me as I grew up, from South Florida to Central Florida and Toronto, Canada. Each time they occurred, I fell into a trance, feeling relaxed, free, and protected.
Today's weather brought me back to a time when ex-wives were not a thing in my life.
Returning to a time when paying a mortgage or working for a living wasn't a worry. It was a time when my parents were always there, and my sisters were there to help or hinder me.
I used to dream a lot. I've always been a dreamer, and many of my dreams have come true. Instead of dreaming for myself, I only dream that my children will fulfill their true potential.
I dreamt of being a father, although I never seemed to have a wife in that dream. It came true.
I dreamed of basking in the limelight of fame in my younger days. I had always pictured myself as the protagonist of my story, with paparazzi following me everywhere I went.
Having tasted a pinch of fame, I realize that it's not all it's cracked up to be. The constant scrutiny and attention get overwhelming sometimes, and I often find myself wishing for a simpler life. In retrospect, I would have been content with being an average person, living a quiet life away from the glitz and glamour that comes with fame.
Travel, wealth, health and happiness. Well, 3 out of 4 isn't too bad.
When I step outside and experience the weather I love, I am always transported to a different world. Everything else seems to fade away, whether it's past, present, or future.
Today's weather has taken me by surprise, as I haven't experienced it or reminisced about it in a long time. It seems that, perhaps, it is a message from above. It might be time for me to release the struggle and move to a higher ground.
I truly cherish the memory of this weather, as it brings me back to a special time.
I time when I was free, happy, and ready to meet the day.
