Hello all, what a summer it has been! I’ve spent most of it teaching this incredible group of adults at Northeast Montessori Institute and camp with the bluebirds. Now I’m focusing the last few weeks on my family and home as I prepare to have BOTH of my children away at college. What?!

I hope you are all finding time to reset, reboot, and rejuvenate before heading back to the classroom. I head back to formally setup the first week in September.

When do you start your new year?

Also you may be asking, what are those people even doing?! We are making a Human Sculpture as part of our Music and Movement curriculum!

Children love riddles! This is a great way for them to practice patience, self-control, and listening skills in a group. You can find 8 different sets to use with your students in the shop!

Lemonade Stand is an annual favorite at Bluebird. This special day highlights skills that the children have built all year and get to share with their families. They mix and stir and make signs and decorate. Their faces show so much pride when they ask their adults “Would you like some lemonade?”

This song should flow through all classrooms! It’s on regular rotation at Bluebird this year and became a fast favorite. Mica is the songwriter extraordinaire and Montessori teacher who seamlessly weaves song and nature into their practice.

We hope you love this song as much as we do and enjoy sharing it with the littles in your care.

It’s been ages since I’ve shared a unit project with you so I’m happy to be able to do it today! We are diving into insects and other small creatures. When I build a unit, I find it very important to have materials on the shelf that really speak to all ages in the classroom. I like to add materials that need little to no explanation alongside research and references and lastly, some more project based activities for those ready for it.

Additionally, there are on theme picture books, art activities, and a couple of other random bits. I typically don’t put everything out all at once, but can rotate out activities as they gather dust in order to make space for new work that deepens the learning.
