Refrigeration and Air Conditioning majors are using their knowledge and skills to address heating and cooling issues in North Hall, the home to University Police.

The students, under the supervision of Instructor Peter Ryan, have removed an old furnace that was beyond repair and are installing a newer, much more efficient one. It’s a $4,500 unit that was donated to the program, which the program is now donating to University Police. The new furnace and blower will be augmented by a cooling coil (installed outside) that will cool the building as well. Currently, North Hall is dependent upon multiple window AC units for this function.

“Students are really excited to do this kind of live work, and it’s certainly something that will make the building much more comfortable and much more energy efficient,” says Nancy Macdonald, School of Applied Technologies Dean. “It’s a learning experience that is both genuine and beneficial to the campus.” Read more about the program at http://www.delhi.edu/academics/associate_degree/hvac/index.php
