Parent Memos: Week of August 24th
-Our theme this year is "Level Up"-Throughout the year students will be able to dress as this theme. They can dress like a video game, board game, or card game. A theme shirt and jeans is also acceptable. No mask or face paint. Please make sure their dress is school appropriate.
-Reminder that no one should be in the car rider line until 3:10. Please be there by 3:25 to pick up.
The powerful word we are learning this week is Infer/Inference. Infer/Inference means read between the lines; What is the hidden meaning?
For example,
Inference = What I KNOW + What I SEE/READ → What I FIGURE OUT
“The text doesn't always tell you everything. Sometimes you have to be a detective!”
Imagine a student walks into the classroom in the morning and notices:
Their teacher is wearing a raincoat.
Several students are carrying wet umbrellas.
The classroom floor has wet footprints.
The teacher never says, “It is raining outside.” But the student can infer that it is raining because of the clues they see and what they already know about rain.
Inference: It is raining outside.
Evidence/Clues: The teacher has a raincoat, students have wet umbrellas, and there are wet footprints.
