Chickens changed my life. πŸ”

I know that sounds dramatic. It's still the truth.

Before I became a regenerative ag cheerleader, I toured a commercial chicken house. The smell knocked me off my feet. And I realized β€” this is what I'd been feeding my family.

Food doesn't just arrive at Walmart. Somewhere between the barn and the checkout, we've lost the plot.

So we started raising our own. Failed. Kept going. And the first thing I noticed was my BRAIN FOG lifting. Then everything else started to matter β€” the food, the land, my family, my time.

We've been disconnected from where our food comes from for too long.

Your compost pile needs a chicken πŸ”

Turning compost by hand is hard work.

But one chicken can turn 3 cubic feet of compost a day β€” just looking for food.

🚫 No pitchfork
🚫 No electric turner
βœ… Just chickens being chickens

Machines do the work FOR you. Chickens do the work AS themselves. One costs money β€” the other lays eggs πŸ₯š

The math nobody teaches you about meat chickens...

Everyone asks the wrong question: "How many chickens should I have per acre?"
Ask this instead: "How much land can my chickens IMPROVE this season?"

The numbers:
25 meat chickens moving daily = ~1/2 acre regenerated per 8-week batch
3 batches per year = 1.5 acres per season
That's real land regeneration at homestead scale.

Confinement operations use land to produce chickens. Homestead permaculture uses chickens to produce land.

Full carrying capacity math in the free Wild Country Skool workshop will be dropping this month. Link in bio!

3 things chickens do to your soil that a big machine can't...

1️⃣ Precision fertility β€” chicken manure lands exactly where they walk
2️⃣ Bio-tillage β€” 1-2" of soil aeration with no structural damage
3️⃣ W**d seed control β€” they eat the seeds and turn them into food

Bonus 4️⃣: you can't eat a machine πŸ˜‰

This pasture used to be a moonscape. Rotating chickens through it brought it back β€” now it supports ruminants too. That's what regenerative land use actually looks like.

Sam Parker Davies (Zaytuna Farm) on the Reclamation PDC...

"I personally think Kaleb is going to make an incredible teacher, that will be guiding you through permaculture and creating a better world because of it."

Sam is a co-teacher at Geoff Lawton's PDC school in Australia. I trained under him and Geoff in July. He's guest-teaching one Zoom session during our cohort.

His bigger point in this clip: teachers should be from the place they teach. That's why the Reclamation PDC exists β€” Appalachian teacher, Appalachian land, focused on reclaiming the ground most people write off.

Geoff Lawton endorsed the Reclamation PDC β€” Founding Cohort by name 🌱

"No matter how harsh the landscape, we can regenerate it and bring it back into purpose and production."

I filmed this at Zaytuna Farm in Australia earlier this month when I was training under Geoff. He agreed to guest-teach a Zoom session during our cohort.

For anyone considering the PDC β€” this is what one of the most respected voices in permaculture had to say about it.

β†’ How to make finished compost in 18-21 days (not 6 months)

This is the same method used at Geoff Lawton's PDC school in Australia.
