OWU Dept. of Music Ohio Wesleyan encourages students to fully realize their passion for music
and also to develop the skills and discipline required to be successful.

The goal of Music Department is threefold: to impart knowledge as transmitted through the study and performance of music, which is one of the essential fine arts in the undergraduate liberal arts curriculum; to develop and enhance the creative and academic musical talents of those students who aspire for various professional careers in the field of music; and to place the study of music in the context of social, cultural and educational values.

Please join Mariko Kaneda, piano, and Alexander Goldberg, violin, for the opening concert of the 2026-2027 Performing Arts season in Sanborn Hall's Jemison Auditorium.

Mariko and Alexander will present a recital of two titans of the violin-piano duo repertoire, Franz Schubert’s "Grand Duo" sonata in A major, D. 574, and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No. 9 in A major, Op. 47—the “Kreutzer Sonata.” Despite sharing the key of A major, the two works present very different emotional worlds. Schubert, ever the Lieder-writer, combines melancholy cantilenas with folkish dance; Beethoven, firmly in his heroic period, conjures firy virtuosity, spinning an epic sonata of symphonic scale from a primordial introduction deceiving in its simplicity.

Ohio Wesleyan Performing Arts Department presents their spring musical production "Into the Woods," in Chappelear Drama Center, 45 Rowland Ave., Delaware on April 10, 11, 17 and 18 at 7:30 p.m. With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim "Into the Woods" combines and reimagines fairy tales to tell the story of a baker and his wife who try to break a witch's curse to be able to have children.
