Some of our Scholars recently travelled around Columbus with Alt Eat Food Tours and tasted dishes from a variety of culture-based restaurants, like Yemeni and Brazilian! Thanks to all who joined!

On behalf of the Global Scholars Program, congratulations to our '22 GS cohort! You've all worked really hard to get here. You've juggled difficult academics with Greek life. You've directed clubs, performed an instrument, or participated in sports. You volunteered and did an internship. You worked one, two, or three jobs. You've developed everlasting friendships and rediscovered your truth.

I encourage you to heed this testimony as you go on to be lifelong learners and exceptional trailblazers; certainly do not twist yourselves into molds to impress. Do not attempt it. If anybody appreciates that form of you, the one who is untrue and withdraws, they really adore that distorted image, not you. The globe is such a magnificently multidimensional, pluralistic society, as you have learned as you travelled abroad and engaged in global-thinking. Continue to strive for greatness. Congratulations!

🌟FRESHMAN SPOTLIGHT🌟
Meet Joey!

Joey is from Akron, OH, and intends to major in History with a minor in Classical Studies. Joey will take German and, hopefully, classical Greek while at OWU. Joey's favorite place that he has ever been is Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany. A fun fact about Joey is that he worked on a farm and volunteered at a local history museum before coming to college. Joey is most excited about meeting new people and getting involved on campus and in Delaware!

I wanted to be a Global Scholar because "I'm extremely passionate about language and understanding other cultures, and I would love to explore the world."

Meet Maizy!

Maizy is from Columbus, OH, and intends to double major in Environmental Science and Microbiology, with a minor in Anthropology. Maizy will also take Italian while at OWU. Maizy's favorite place is Bighorn National Forest because "it was one of the most breathtakingly beautiful landscapes I've ever laid eyes on." A fun fact about Maizy is that she roller-skates and hopes to get involved with roller derby this year. Maizy is most excited to enter a community of open minded and passionate people, and to meet others who share the same interests and and goals.

I wanted to be a Global Scholar because "It's always been a dream of mine to travel, and it is incredibly important to me as an environmental activist and feminist to expose myself to different perspectives—especially in a world where people must work together to tackle global issues such as climate change and discrimination."

Meet Brooke!

Brooke is from Canton, OH, and is undecided on her major(s) and minor(s), but knows she will take Spanish while at OWU. Brooke's favorite places are Niagara falls and Ohiopyle, PA. Brooke was born on Ohio's Bicentennial, and was a delegate to the 65th Annual Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations. Brooke is most excited to be able to discuss and learn about global affairs and practices with a group of people that share her interests and passions in regard to the global community.

I wanted to be a Global Scholar because "I wanted to experience cultures, practices, and people beyond what I grew up in. The world is a big place and I want to be able to experience as much of it as I can. We have so much to learn from each other."

Meet Marvella!

Marvella is from Jakarta, Indonesia, and intends to major in Psychology and Nutrition. Marvella will take French while at OWU. Marvella has been singing professionally since she was 5, and one of the songs she released is about the environment (called "Kita Peduli" on YouTube)! Marvella's favorite place that she has ever been is London, because she was invited to perform at Her Majesty's Theatre in the West End there! Marvella is most excited about grasping as much opportunity as she can, and setting her lifelong dreams.

I wanted to become a Global Scholar because "I feel affected every time I hear what occurs worldwide and I care profoundly for my role and what I can do, for example in creating a sustainable environment. I want to be a part of that community that can make that change. No matter how big or small. And I believe that community is the Global Scholars here at OWU."

Meet Camila!

Camila is from Chicago, IL, and intends to major in Zoology with a minor in Spanish. Camila's favorite place is Mexico, where her extended family lives. She loves seeing culture and connecting back to her own. A fun fact about Camila is that she enjoys reading and is a fan of Harry Potter. Camila is most excited about meeting new people and learning new and fascinating things this year.
