A helping hand in home daycare

UPDATE:

After much thought and prayer, I’ve made the difficult decision to close A Helping Hand’s drop-in childcare services, with June 5th being our final day of care.

A Helping Hand was created from a dream that was always meant to be more than just childcare. My vision was to create a place where families could find support, resources, encouragement, and a sense of community.

The plan was to begin as an in-home program and eventually grow into a fully licensed daycare serving even more families in our community.

Unfortunately, due to low enrollment and an investor having one too many projects on their plate, I’ve found myself in a position where continuing financially no longer makes sense at this time.

Although this chapter is ending, my passion for helping families is not. I will continue offering after-hours babysitting services, as well as support for children with special needs.

I want to sincerely thank every family, friend, and supporter who believed in me and supported A Helping Hand throughout this journey. Your encouragement has meant more than you know.

If anyone needs assistance finding childcare providers or mental health resources, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Helping families has always been at the heart of this dream and will continue.

This week, we’re focusing on helping children learn more about themselves and each other through our “All About Me” theme!

Children are invited to bring 3 special items from home that connect to their senses (something they can see, touch, hear, smell, or even taste if appropriate). This is a great way for them to express who they are and share a little piece of their world with friends. We’ll also be sharing family photos to help build connection, comfort, and a sense of belonging within our group.

Throughout the week, we’ll engage in fun and meaningful activities including:
🎶 Singing songs like Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes
📖 Reading The Mine-O-Saurus, a story that helps teach the importance of sharing
🤝 Practicing social skills like taking turns and learning about others

We’re excited to build confidence, communication, and friendships right from the start!

At a Helping hand we believe in living in the moment and the importance of being actively present.

Children will model what they see and hear.
We don’t use language like: stop running, be quiet, sit down but rather use positive I messages of I need to see walking feet, hear quiet inside voices all while modeling the behavior.

We keep lower ratios (1:4 instead of 1:6) to give children safety and one on one attention.
