Our Pre-K had a gallery opening. 🎨
Not a craft table — an exhibition. Curated, matted, labeled, with an
artist statement beside every single piece. Because the painting isn't
the point. The thinking behind it is.
And our favorite: 👹 Feed the Worry Monster. The kids built a monster
from a tissue box, then drew or wrote down whatever was bothering them
and fed it to him. A four-year-old often can't say "I'm nervous" — but
they can draw it, fold it, and let it go.
Then we let them tour it. Pointing at their own work. Finding their
friends' names. Explaining their process to anyone who'd listen.
A child seeing their work framed and labeled learns something you can't
teach directly: what I made matters enough to be displayed. 💛
This is what "learning through play" looks like when you take it
seriously.
