Volusia County, located in the heart of the beautiful east coast of Florida, is a rapidly growing, progressive area. Sixteen municipalities make up the county, with Daytona Beach, DeLand, Deltona, Ormond Beach and Port Orange as the largest metropolitan areas. The county is conveniently located for easy access to major cities such as Orlando, Jacksonville, Tampa and Miami. Volusia's 500,800 residents are engaged in a variety of occupations, including tourism, farming, light industry, education, government, and the professions. With 62,850 students and approximately 7,300 employees, the system is the state's thirteenth largest school district and one of the largest employers in the county. More than half of the district's employees are skilled teachers, all of whom are state certified. Approximately 42 percent of instructional staff hold master's degrees, educational specialist degrees or doctorate degrees. People who live and work in the county have a multitude of educational and cultural experiences and opportunities to explore. Families and individuals of all interests, backgrounds and abilities have access to an array of enriching learning opportunities. Volusia offers higher educational options through Daytona State College, University of Central Florida, Bethune-Cookman University, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Keiser College, Stetson University and Nova Southeastern University.

This statewide recognition acknowledges achievement in three key areas: academic performance, financial accountability, and class-size compliance.

This achievement reflects the dedication of our educators, staff, students, families, community partners, and school board united by one purpose: ensuring every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.

βš–οΈ Investing in the Future of Law and Government!

Today, Assistant State Attorney John Reid, along with Haley Harrison, public information officer for the State Attorney, Florida's 7th Circuit, and Dr. Carmen Balgobin, Superintendent Volusia County Schools, visited the Academy of Law and Government at Atlantic High School to see firsthand how students are building the knowledge, skills, and leadership qualities needed for careers in law, government, and public service.

The visit was made even more special as students and guests joined in recognizing the district's VCS CTE Teacher of the Year. The honor was especially fitting as Mr. Camiel Long helps lead the Academy of Law and Government and plays a key role in preparing the next generation of leaders.

Thank you to our community partners for investing in our students and supporting pathways that inspire future attorneys, public servants, and changemakers. πŸ‘
