At Stetson University, great teaching extends far beyond the classroom.

We are proud to introduce Faculty Forward, a new monthly series launched by Stetson's Board of Trustees Chair and Double Hatter Lila Jaber to recognize faculty whose teaching, mentorship and investment in students help prepare the next generation of leaders.

Our inaugural Faculty Forward spotlight features Professor Randall Croom, PhD, recipient of the 2026 William Hugh McEniry Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Drawing from his private-sector experience, Dr. Croom challenges students to connect what they learn in the classroom to the people, organizations and communities they will one day impact. His approach emphasizes leadership, ethics, resilience and the value of learning through failure.

“We are developing leaders at Stetson, so it’s important that we talk about the kind of people that we should be so that when our students are in charge, they’ll create and develop better organizations.”

Through Faculty Forward, we are celebrating educators like Dr. Croom who help students discover not only what they can do, but who they can become!

Families arrived with cars packed, our campus community was ready to lend a hand, and hundreds of new Hatters began turning our residence halls into home.

This week, we celebrated the newest additions to the Champions Walkway, honoring three Stetson teams that captured ASUN championships during the 2026 season.

These moments are a reflection of the dedication of our student-athletes and coaches, and the support of the Hatter family behind them.

The Princeton Review has named Stetson one of the Best Colleges in America for the 12th year in a row.

Stetson was selected for the 2027 edition of The Best 392 Colleges, featuring schools that provide an academically outstanding undergraduate education.

With the selection, Stetson joins an elite group of about 14% of colleges nationwide.

Stetson also was recognized as a Best College in the South and, based on student surveys, was ranked No. 24 in the nation for "Most Politically Moderate Students."

In surveys, Stetson students gave high marks to their professors. They praised the beautiful campus, the close-knit community, and the many hands-on learning opportunities that prepare students for careers after graduation.

Stetson has a history of building phenomenal graduates for amazing careers. Students go beyond the course material and into internship, research, and global study opportunities. They live their experience, hone their skills, and work side-by-side with professors committed to helping them get ready to accomplish big things and bigger dreams.

Three more championship teams now have their place in Stetson Athletics history: Men’s Tennis, capturing its first ASUN Championship; Beach Volleyball, claiming its eighth ASUN title; and Softball, winning its sixth ASUN Championship. Three teams, three unforgettable seasons, one growing legacy.

Convocation officially kicked off the 2026-2027 academic year!

As our Hatters prepare for the first day of classes tomorrow, we are grateful for the words of encouragement, inspiration and wisdom shared today.

A special thank you to our keynote speaker and Stetson alumnus Junior Nyong’o ’17 for reminding us to embrace every opportunity along the journey ahead. Thank you to Professor Randall Croom, PhD, recipient of the 2026 William Hugh McEniry Award for Excellence in Teaching, whose moving remarks left our community inspired. To our SGA President, Joseph Ortiz, thank you for reminding our students that Stetson is not something that happens around us, it is something we create together.
