The Florida Literacy Coalition indicates that about 1 in 4 adults in Florida are at or below Level 1 of literacy, according to the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC). This level suggests they may struggle with basic reading tasks like identifying vocabulary words and understanding sentences.

130 million Americans—54% of adults between the ages of 16 and 74 years old—lack proficiency in literacy, essentially reading below the equivalent of a sixth-grade level.
