Looking for an Easy Way to Get your Information for All of your Student Loans Organized? Here’s a Simple Solution:
Chances are, you have more than one student loan. You might also have a mixture of federal and private loans — along with different payment due dates and servicers. Here’s an easy way to keep track of your info:
Create a loan spreadsheet with six columns, using the following column headings to help track your loans:
1.Type of loan: Private, subsidized federal, unsubsidized federal, etc. If you don’t know, go to nslds.ed.gov for your federal student loans. You can also request a free report from annualcreditreport.com. It will let you see your private and federal student loans that are being reported to the nationwide credit reporting agencies. (Note: Not all servicers may report their loans to these agencies.)
2. Name of the servicer: This is the company you’ll deal with to manage the loan. For most Smart Option Student Loans, Sallie Mae is your servicer.
3.Servicer’s phone number: If Sallie Mae is your servicer, our phone number is 800-4-SALLIE (800-472-5543).
4.Interest rate for each loan.
5.The date your grace period ends.
6.If there’s no grace period, make a note of the date you graduated or left school. Contact your servicer at least 30 days before to make sure you know when your payment is due.
